If it’s anything like their release of Mad Max then they shouldn’t bother (I’m a huge fan of the label but this one was a turd).

You mean Young Guns 2? If so why don't they? And who does? What is the damn issue with getting this on blu?

Yep it was one of the first blu rays to come out, old dated master a new scan in collectors edition format. A lot off people forget but "scream factory" did a mad max special edition, it wasn that good of a release.

I don't think anyone forgot that Scream Factory did a Mad Max collectors edition. It was heavily discussed upon announcement due to it not fitting with the line and was a recurring topic over the years due to it showing up for cheap at Wal-Mart and then also being announced as one of their best sellers.

I personally don't mind the SF version of Mad Max but maybe I'm in the minority on that one, lol

Me neither. I got rid of my old BD for the SF version, although I didn't pick it up until a few months ago for $7.88 on Amazon . I'd buy a CE of Road Warrior & Beyond Thunderdome.

Similar story with me as well. I grabbed a copy from Target when it hit it's cheap prices and then sought out The Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome after the fact. I'd likely pick up collectors editions as well now that I've actually seen these films a few times.

I sure wish they would find a way to get the rights to the 1980 film with Dennis Christopher "Fade to Black".

Fade to Black really needs to get released. Bill said the rights owner lives in Syria so I guess its hard to get a hold of him.

I think the rights from the owner isn't the problem, it's the nightmare of clearing the rights for the clips within the film.

Well I wouldn't think it would be that hard since it was released on DVD.

I agree with synnerman - this could be a film-within-the-film rights situation. The fact that the film was released on DVD without edits has no bearing in this age of separate rights negotiations with each new format. Valley Girl is a good example - there's still no Blu-ray despite the fact there was a fully-loaded DVD. As for the owner living in Syria, according to imdb, Fade To Black was distributed by Compass International, the producing company behind the original Halloween, Tourist Trap and Hell Night among others. I thought I'd read that is Frank (or Irwin) Yablans' company. Does he live in Syria these days?

Im not sure who exactly owns the rights, Bill just said the guy lives in Syria (and that he's probably dead) lol

And I guess we will never really find out either way if there are any rights issues to the clips in the movie, until someone gets a hold of the owner.

SF has reached out to the rights owner, but he doesn’t respond to calls and emails. Apparently he’s rich and doesn’t need the money, so it isn’t worth his time.

This is the kind of stuff I don't understand. If the guy doesn''t have any money problems and doesn't need it, then why own the rights to the movie anyways?

Isn't the point of owning something, to make a profit from it? Especially films.

He may have inherited it.

"Valley Girl" wasn't released on DVD with no edits, though. There's at least one big music change, and there's a review on Amazon that notes several other minor cuts that I'm not sure are accurate.

I actually bought The Road Warrior on Blu-ray first, but then got the Mad Max CE and Beyond Thunderdome afterward.

As for Fade to Black, we need a famous filmmaker fanboy with friends in high places to pull a Lars Ulrich (when he fought to rescue the master tapes of Diamond Head's Lightning to the Nations) and lawyer up to rescue the film from its current state of neglect.
