Not as annoying as the "you should buy stuff you don't like because I said so" crowd.

I mean, I own the special edition SW Blu-rays, but only because the community built around Despecialized and other restoration projects has a rule that anyone who downloads an edit or restoration should own the primary source for it (the Blu-rays in the case of Despecialized).

I think saying I won't purchase further non-theatrical versions of Star Wars is no different from someone not buying a particular Blu-ray release because the colors are terrible, for example. The motivation is to have a home video presentation which, as accurately as possible, represents the original theatrical presentation. Star Wars is simply the most extreme example of that not being the case.

Yeah, it can be fun debating the merit of specific movies and discs but it's hard for me to relate to someone who take personal offense with how other people choose to spend their money. It's like...

Social media has tricked people in to thinking every opinion they have, no matter how slight or uninteresting, needs to be shared at every opportunity.

I have seen a lot of silly things posted on these forums but have yet to see someone say someone should buy something they don't like, let alone for the sole reason of "I said so". Let alone enough of them to call them a "crowd".

There are hundreds of threads on this site I ignore because it's about a movie or release I don't care about. Life is way to short for me to find the time to check the ones I do like. I'll never understand those that spend their time in threads for a release they have no interest in.

Okay. Did you miss the context of my post? I was responding directly to someone who was complaining about people who might only want to buy season 1 of GoT, which is the subject of this thread. I mean, if he wasn’t implying that people should buy all the seasons or none of the seasons, what exactly was he trying to say other than making a weird straw man argument about people who like to read?

I honestly do think Season One is one of Got's better seasons. Which is funny since it had by far the lowest budget and scope. I think a looooooot of seasons 2-5 were meandering time wasting, but then again I say that about most serialized shows. I'm not a big fan of the serialized format. Everyone keeps telling me The Expanse is the best sci-fi in years but halfway through season one I was bored stiff.

Anyway, I still like GoT a lot because when it's good it's amazing and it seems to be heading toward a great conclusion. Eager for the last season and maybe a 4k complete set someday, depending on reviews. I thought Westworld's 4k version was meh.

Couldn’t be happier with the show as a huge fan of the books. I loved seeing a lot of my favorite moments adapted on screen and don’t think of them as “meandering time wasting”(aside from Dorne, which was thankfully a lot shorter on the show then the ongoing book plot).

I think this may look meh too. It was shot and post-produced with plain HD broadcasting/streaming quality in mind.
If T.V. series can be hit or miss on BD just imagine the results on a more demanding format like UHD BD. It may get improved color due to the cameras capturing picture at over 8 bit depth and UHD BD getting 10/12 bit depth, but HDR on Game Of Thrones which was shot to HD/2K video without HDR in mind I think it may be like listening to Brothers In Arms on SACD and thinking that DSD sound quality is great when all one is hearing is red book 44.1/16 resolution upsampled to DSD.
Upconverting a DCP 2K cinema master is one thing, upconverting and HDR grading a broadcast HD master is a different stuff.

I mean obviously millions of people disagree with me, I'm just tossing my opinion out there. The pacing of these long serialized shows just turns me off, I can't help it. I don't even like how common it is for movies to be over two hours now-a-days.

DCPs are usually not used for making UHDs. DCPs are compressed masters for cinemas, not archival quality sources. DI data is used. Concerning GOT a HD master can still deliver a superior image compared to the Blu Ray version. And if they go back to the raw 10 bit footage the HDR can be pretty good as well.

I agree. Anyone who complains Dorne dragged on forever in the show needs to read the books. Dorne in the show is more like a brief diversion compared to the achingly long side trip in the books.

Great to see some more TV shows making the move to 4K, TV box sets were a huge part of my previous Blu-Ray collection, I’ll be gobbling up these as they are released and I hope we get some more shows making the jump too. Westworld was nothing to show off to friends or anything, but I’m a big fan of having it in my 4K collection.

And it’s still going on in the next book with all of it’s useless characters.

Westworld can feel a little disappointing in the first half but the second half got rewritten in the middle of filming and it picks up considerably.

Also, similar can be said for The Expanse. You stopped watching just as it was getting good, Velvet!
