Yep, I couldn’t stand to watch it. I’m now really excited for this.

I've never liked it, and I'm not just saying that now, as I've been whinging about how crappy the BD looks (which is itself another lowballed HD DVD encode) for a good long while.

I will only by this as a trilogy as I did the originals. When do we get the 4k trilogy or trilogy plus Animatrix?

I've never seen The Matrix so I'll end up buying this at some point. I'll probably wait for the price to drop a little bit.

i'm buying as soon as someone verifies highlight detail is at least somewhat intact on the uhd disc; the colours are ridiculously better.

haven't seen it since i bought that 10 disc set on dvd

Dat stand-off shot with Neo and Elrond Smith. Much more color nuance, secondary colors aren't beaten into submission by green tint.

The colours seems all over the place in the matrix. Some are almost identical to the old disc, some are almost blue, some have no real tint at all...

I don't know, most of them look really good, but then there are a few that look like a dupe of a dupe with gamma set at 1.8.

Like on the one with Trinity pointing the gun it actually looks like they might have applied additional softening, glow and chromatic aberration.

My biggest issue though is that a lot of the blue/cyan tones were clearly not in the original film and have been digitally coaxed and goaded into place and I'm afraid there's going to be some artifacts and color noise as a result.

The previously mentioned shot shows clear separation/banding in the colors with the gradation on the latex going from dark to a reddish band to a cyan band to bright, typical when you try to selectively pull parts of the image in different directions. Same with her fingers going from pink to cyan. It just doesn't look natural/filmic, more like someone trying to apply an extreme, awesome, cool grade to their poor DSLR footage.

On the third shot with Trinity and Cypher the wall almost looks colorized with grain just about to break apart. Same with the cyan-tinted top part of the lobby shootout shot, as well as the smoke in the last one.

On the sixth shot with Trinity and the policeman the grain is in parts completely broken due to the colorization, very noticeable in the blob next to her ear and the white of her eye.

Hoping the HDR might alleviate some of this, we'll see.

One review mentioned severeness of this on the BD and less problematic, but still present, on the UHD.

Thanks for the screen shots. I'm now more encouraged to purchase the 4K verison of this movies. Now wondering if I should wait for the trilogy set. Decisions, decisions...

Will definitely pick up the inevitable trilogy boxset. Glad to see the film's DP restored the amazing cinematography!

Thumbs up

Wow, the new transfer is quite a stunner.

This would look beyond brilliant in-motion. Especially during the fight scenes.

the green isnt completely gone guys it just doesnt cloud the entire frame of detail and other colors like before, from the review

" The environment still has multiple green elements, but now other hues are also visible, including a few blues. The stylized wash that used to cover every shot is no more"

"To borrow Jan Yarbrough's phrase, green is "ever present"—but it isn't everywhere."
