It's had two blu-ray releases, but neither is English friendly. I'm surprised Criterion hasn't upgraded it yet.

Yep, in "TohoScope" (identical to CinemaScope, as used by Toho Studios).

One thing: If you look at Amazon, B&N, and eBay, you may be forgiven for thinking it is OOP (there are copies out there for $100-$200). It is not, as evidenced by Criterion's own site where it is in stock at $23.95. The next Criterion 24 Hour Flash Sale should happen either this week or next, when you can pick it up for $15.

.. My sneaking suspicion is that Crit. has been "Saving" (Or applying) their Efforts to the "Better known" Kurosawa titles first.
Then, when there is time.. or nothing better to do.. they Get-around to it!!

Just reading Beaver reviews of a couple of B&W Scope titles in the new Hammer Volume 2: Criminal Intent set from Indicator.

Never Take Sweets From a Stranger is already listed in the OP here, but looks like The Full Treatment can be added:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-F...lu-ray/194340/

Beaver reviews of both:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film6/blu-r...er_blu-ray.htm

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film6/blu-r...nt_blu-ray.htm

Not the biggest fan of Hammer, but this set of non-horror titles looks very interesting and I may well pick it up.

The OP has been updated with the four films from the first Suzuki set. Unfortunately, all of the titles have identical artwork from the box set, so it's just repeated four times, and you have to click on each title to see the film to which it's referring.

I believe all of the films in Volume 2 are also shot in the 2.40.1 AR (and at least some are black and white), but I'm going to wait until it's released next month to confirm before further updating the OP.

Arrow is re-releasing The Human Condition Trilogy on July 23:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-H...lu-ray/202653/

I had been meaning to pick up the original Arrow release, which was a six-disc set containing BD+DVD, but it is now OOP - with one copy only currently available on Amazon UK from a seller, priced at 399.00 GBP.

The re-release is a three-disc set with just the BD, with a list price of 29.99 GBP. Needless to say, I've put in my pre-order.

I love DVDBeaver, but it's taken me 10 years to find their Home button ...

I know what you mean.

I have the following link on my bookmark bar. It scrolls straight to the latest reviews, and then I can click on the red link to all reviews:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/new-format.htm

Yeah, I love his site. He gets a bit of flak around here for being overly generous in his praise, but I've always found him pretty much spot on. Plus, he is a movie fan first and foremost, which I'd take over dry, technical analysis every time.

Thanks for letting us know. I've updated the OP with the upcoming edition.

Also, Beaver has caps up for Blue Denim, and it looks like a quality transfer: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRe...im_blu-ray.htm

He must have put that up after my "daily" visit.

Another definite purchase.

Carol Lynley looks so young. She is great in Bunny Lake is Missing, which I enjoyed for the first time earlier this year.

Loving these B&W Scope releases.

Wandering around the site and came across this title which I think can be added to the list:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Vice-...2342/#Overview

Never heard of it. Not sure if it's my cup of tea, but nice looking transfer. Maybe a pick up if it goes on sale.

Nice catch. I hadn't heard of it previously. Added to the OP.

My copy of Hammer Volume Two: Criminal Intent was delivered today. Pictured are the two titles of interest in this thread:

I order many BD from Amazon in the UK, but this set was shipped in what has to be the most shockingly inadequate packaging I've ever seen. Quite amazing that the set arrived 98% unscathed, with just a minor dent and a very slight tear to the paper band.

And by way of a cheesy segue, here is my other recent "Hammer" B&W 'Scope pickup :

Has there been any news about a blu-ray release of "Hud"? Probably my most wanted title not available yet.

Funny, when the DVD came out it was a revelation having previously only seen it on TV in pan and scan. Now I'm so spoiled by excellent blu-ray transfers that I find the old DVD nearly unwatchable!

Sorry, not read anything. I don't know if Paramount would release it direct, or license to another distributor. There are folk on the forums who have this kind of info down (which company has rights to what, etc.), so maybe ask around.

It's one of my most wanted titles on blu-ray, but you really only need to know one word to know why it hasn't been released: Paramount. The company still hasn't figured out that they're sitting on an untapped revenue stream via blu-rays of their classics. Roman Holiday isn't even on blu-ray yet, which is ridiculous.
