That thing is a classic, and luckily, it's not a part of the animated canon, so I won't have to wait for them to burn through the likes of Beauty and the Beast or Lion King to get to this gem. Really, I hate the way they're doing the animated releases; they should get them all out ASAP.
I loved that movie as a kid but tend to forget about it

I'm cool with Pinocchio and anything Disney decided to do. I don't mind waiting half year to get one favorite movie. It feels more valuable.

Aladdin & Beauty and The Beast for sure.

I'm a sucker for The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under.

Fantasia and Fantasia 2000

Limited interest:
Pocahontas (no laughing)
The Black Cauldron
The Sword in the Stone
The Jungle Book

Amazon lists Pinocchio on Blu-ray for $24.95 to be released on March 10, 2009. What is this other film "Pinnochio"?

I plan to buy Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Bambi, Dumbo, Fantasia (also Fantasia 2000), Alice in Wonderland, and Lady and the Tramp on Blu-ray. I already have all of these and more on DVD. I didn't buy Sleeping Beauty on Blu-ray because I watched the DVD and was a bit bored by the story. Maleficent was the most interesting character, especially when she turned into a dragon. The three fairy godmothers were just silly. I do admit that the background paintings in the forest scenes were interesting (very stylized). I'm also not crazy about Cinderella, although the scenes with her and the animals were fun.

After Walt Disney died, the feature length animated movies were of lesser quality until The Little Mermaid started a renaissance that produced Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, and Pocahontas. I don't remember the Hunchback of Notre Dame very well but I think the features started to decline again with Hercules. I like some of the Pixar films but I don't consider them to be Disney films, even if Disney produces them.

This update might interest all of you Disney fans....

Quote:
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment have unveiled their Blu-ray Disc release plans for 2009. Along with title announcements, Disney have announced that going forward all Disney-branded theatrical and Platinum titles releasing on Blu-ray between February and October will include a DVD version of the film. Previously seen on their Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition Blu-ray release, future ‘Combo Pack’ titles will include High School Musical 3: Senior Year, Pinocchio: 70th Anniversary Special Edition and the next Platinum Edition title which is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in October.

In North America WDSHE will also be packaging 14 of its new Blu-ray Disc titles with a DisneyFile digital copy of the movie. These titles include High School Musical 3: Senior Year, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Monsters Inc. and A Bug’s Life. Yep, you read that right, Pixar have two catalogue titles due later this year on Blu-ray Disc. Further titles announced for North America are listed below...

New Releases listed are:
Swing Vote (Jan 13)
Space Buddies (Feb 3)
Miracle at St. Anna (Feb 10)
High School Musical 3: Senior Year (Feb 17) (WDP)
Beverly Hills Chihuahua (March 3) (WDP)
Morning Light (Summer) (WDP)

WDP – We’ve marked the Walt Disney Pictures films that will presumably be ‘Combo Pack’ titles with a DVD version of the film included.

Catalogue titles listed (with “many more to follow”) are:
Pretty Woman (Feb 10)
High School Musical Remix Edition (Feb 17)
Monsters Inc.
A Bugs Life
Microcosmos
Rounders 10th Anniversary Edition
Lost: The Complete First and Second Seasons
Sin City
Miracle
Sling Blade
The Greatest Game Ever Played
Pulp Fiction Special Edition
Good Will Hunting Special Edition

In Europe/Australia we have Space Buddies and High School Musical 3: Senior Year in February, Pinocchio: 70th Anniversary Special Edition in March, Beverly Hills Chihuahua in April and Monsters Inc. sometime in 2009.

In Japan there is Pinocchio: 70th Anniversary Special Edition in March, Tinker Bell and Wall-E in April, and High School Musical 3: Senior Year, Monsters Inc and Beverly Hills Chihuahua to follow at later dates.

I am extremely excited about the release of Pinocchio this year. Pinocchio is my first VHS and I still have it. The case & tape are in excellent condition. There are lots of Disney films I would purchase.

Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Mulan, The Little Mermaid, Lady and the Tramp, Cinderella, Bambi, Fantasia, The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, Dumbo, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, 101 Dalmations, The Fox and the Hound.

The Rescuers and the Rescuers Down Under for the hubby

I will buy every Disney animated film as soon as each is released on Blu. Everyone of them. I love them all.

The two I want the most are The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. Do not forget that Beauty and the Beast is the only animated film to ever have an oscar nomination for Best Picture. These two films are outstanding in every way you can imagine.

Unfortunately, many children and grand children will never find "The laughing place" because I don't think Disney will ever release Song of the South. If Walt were still alive he would release it. I am still keeping my fingers crossed.

Most critics agree that Pinocchio is the most brilliant animation ever drawn by hand. I am really looking forward to this Blu Release in March.

Thank you Mr Disney. Millions of us are grateful.

I will buy all the feature films but the top of my list at the moment would probably be The Little Mermaid as I would like to re-watch it and don't currently own it on dvd.

hi guys, i must admit something has been bothering me for a while and it's the tendency by most people (when it come to disney movie) to concentrate only on animation. i'm 43 myself and i grew up with some great disney movie from the sixty and seventy like:

20.000 leagues under the sea
swiss family robinson
mary poppins
the love bug
the journey of natty gann
flight of the navigator
the parent trap
zorro
etc....

there are many other but those are just a few i would like to see on blu-ray

I'll probably buy each animated Disney film as soon as they're available for Pre-Order. I'm most excited about the prospects of:

Alice in Wonderland
Fantasia
The Lion King
Aladdin
and, though I'd probably have to hope for a region-free release to ever get it: Song of the South

Was there a question?

If the OP is asking "Which pre-Pixar titles would we like on Blu-ray?", my answer would be as follows:

Lion King
Aladdin
Beauty and the Beast

I am just now learning about the Disney classics as they are released on Blu-ray. So far, Sleeping Beauty is pretty awesome.

Disney already announced a timetable for five of the titles mentioned in this thread.

Quote:
The Platinum release roll-out will be: Pinocchio, the beloved story of a wooden puppet who wants to become a real boy, comes to Platinum Edition DVD and Disney Blu-ray in spring 2009. Disney's second full-length animated movie, Pinocchio won two Oscars®, one for Best Score and another for the unforgettable song "When You Wish upon a Star.” It returns for the first time since 2002.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, honored with a special Academy Award® for screen innovation this movie has been unavailable since 2001. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Platinum Edition will be released in the fall of 2009.

Walt Disney’s experimental masterpiece Fantasia won two honorary Oscars for its innovative use of animation and music. Most recently released in 2000, the restored and remastered Fantasia Platinum Edition will be available in 2010. Alongside this release, a newly restored and remastered Fantasia 2000 Platinum Edition, will be available. Fantasia 2000 begins where its predecessor, Fantasia, left off, with seven completely new segments and the return of the popular “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”, featuring breathtaking images coupled with classical music favorites.

In conjunction with these releases, Destino, the unfinished animated feature film created by Walt Disney and famed surrealist painter Salvador Dali will release. Begun in 1946, it was rediscovered in 2003 and completed by Walt’s nephew, Roy E. Disney. The collaboration between these two legendary artists will be available to own for the first time along with an all-new feature-length documentary that examines the surprising partnership between Dali and Disney.

Beauty and the Beast, the only animated film ever nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Picture, earned a breathtaking six Academy Award® nominations and won two Oscars®. Beauty in the Beast Platinum Edition will be available in fall 2010.

I own sixteen of those Walt Disney Treasures tins. And I have yet to get through watching everything on them. So I am in no rush to see, let alone buy, any of these on Blu-ray format any time in the near future.
