Save for the brief Brachiosaur scene, "wonder" is an ingredient I found to be sorely lacking in this movie. Hammond's original park was indeed wonderful and fantastic; Fallen Kingdom sure as hell ain't.

As much as I enjoyed it, I did feel like something was missing but I can't point my finger on what it is. I plan on giving it another shot to see if anything changes.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is my favorite film in the Jurassic Park franchise since Steven Spielberg's original 1993 blockbuster. This is not saying much, since all of the sequels have been blatant cash grabs, complete with action sequences that are just inferior clones of the highlights from the first movie. This latest entry is no exception, and it never rises above mere surface level popcorn entertainment, but, without revealing overt spoilers, I thoroughly enjoyed a change in location setting that occurs halfway through the story and places our protagonists in a claustrophobic environment reminiscent of haunted house movies. This final hour is where director J.A. Bayona, who also helmed the 2007 Spanish horror masterpiece, The Orphanage, really finds his footing. One late scene, where a particularly fearsome dinosaur edges closer to a character who is cowering in bed, earns my vote as the most visually effective horror moment of the series since the Tyrannosaurus Rex introduction in the original.

Ted Levine, who is best known as “Buffalo Bill” in the 1991 film, The Silence of the Lambs, is fun to watch here as a rugged mercenary who joins in on the island expedition. A couple of veterans from the first Jurassic Park movie also have welcome appearances.

In terms of storytelling, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is illogical nonsense across the board as it races us from one sensory overload set piece to another. During the final 15 minutes, the characters make a bewilderingly unwise decision that will leave viewers laughing and shaking their heads. If you are skeptical about the idea of sitting through another pointless sequel that seems solely geared towards pitching Universal Studios amusement park rides on the audience, then this one will not change your mind. I'm nonetheless compelled to give it a solid thumbs-up, because I love the enclosed setting during the final half and because a handful of scenes have a visual “oomph” to them that has not been present in any of the other sequels.

I also have to tip my hat to Bryce Dallas Howard's character for at least trading her awesome high heels for a pair of sensible boots during the action scenes this time around. Her first scene in this movie will earn a smile from those who remember her from the previous film.

As always, even if I disagree with your opinions of a film, I do admire your views on them. To me, if the story is crap, then the film suffers a lot and I cannot find too much enjoyment out of it. Usually with re-watches that felling dissipates, so we'll see once this hits blu-ray if that changes my views. However, I will admit the best parts of the film were the escape from the island, and the claustrophobic element brought to the final act. Something, I didn't really pay attention to the first time around, I will admit. I was just so disappointed in this.

Everything has to have a top notch unique story, bring something major and new to the table, be ten times better than the last film, etc. Can't just go and watch a movie to have some fun and take your mind off of every day life anymore. Everyone thinks they are a movie critic.

I watch a dinosaur movie to see dinosaurs. If I see dinosaurs, I am happy. Throw in some action and cool fights/visuals, I am even happier. So much negativity surrounding this movie.

Saw the movie today.
Summer Blockbuster Popcorn Fun with dinosaurs - Check
Dinosaurs in the movie - Check
Intense scenes with Dinosaurs - Check
Tearful scene with Dinosaurs - Check
Dinosaurs fighting dinosaurs - Check
Great special effects of dinosaurs - Check

Did I care if there were plot holes the size of Texas? Nope. They delivered on the dinosaurs. Did I care about the lame addition of the "tech guy"? Nope. They delivered on the dinosaurs. Did I care about ... I'll stop there, you get the picture.

The first Jurassic Park is nostalgic because it was dinosaurs on the big screen. This entire series is all about, uh, well, dinosaurs. Am I going to watch this movie expecting a story or plot worthy of high praise? That's kind of stupid. If it has a great story or plot, that's just a bonus.

Did it deliver on dinosaurs? IMO, definitely. 4.5 out of 5. When they give the Triceratops more screen time, then I'll give it a 5.

I liked JW a little bit more after watching it a third time; maybe this one will improve after repeat viewings, too. Sometimes a rewatch makes it easier to accept a movie for what is, with unfulfilled hopes and misplaced expectations out of the way.

Did anyone hear this in Dolby Atmos? how was the mix, I only heard it in 5.1 at AMC's Uptown theater here in Washington DC and goddamn was it LOUD! wow!
