I was very rarely captivated by what was happening on screen. It somehow managed to be overstuffed (being essentially two movies in one) and nothing of consequence happen that we haven't seen before.

The plot holes you could drive a truck through, the villains were as one-dimensional as in Avatar, nothing about the movie was "wow".

Too much was going on and not nearly enough of it was interesting.

Popcorn munching spectacle cinema. The Jurassic movies have never been anything more than that since the original anyway, so I wasn't really all that surprised or disappointed. But I was entertained for a couple of hours, which is fine with me for movies like this.

[Show spoiler]I like the potential for the inevitable next movie in this franchise that was opened up in the ending of this. It's probably the wildest detour the films have ever taken, and perhaps needed it. As said, its not going to get better than the first, potentially worse yes. But it needs something to invigorate it a little more, so may as well take a chance on a wild narrative twist that sees things move away from the "dinos confined to a park" story.

Fallen Kingdom...wasn't fun. There was no awe or wonder or spark. A few interesting set pieces, and a solid musical score, but I definitely checked my watch a few times.

It's nowhere near as painfully bad as Independence Day 2 (every copy of that should be burned) but I'm in no rush to watch this again.
Heh. I enjoyed ID2, I cannot say the same for FK.

Gotta love the back and forth that seems to be repeated every time folks dare to dislike a film. It's like people have different opinions or something?

PostTrak shows Fallen Kingdom pulling in more of a general audience than Incredibles 2 (69% vs. 56%), and a decent chuck of parents and kids (30% vs. the Pixar pic’s 44%).

Leading demos in regards to ticket sales for Fallen Kingdom are males over 25 (30%), males under 25 (28%), females over 25 (22%) and females under 25 (19%).
Source: Deadline

I find these numbers interesting... So the movies veer heavier towards the male side... and females under 19 are the lowest...

I think at this point, Chris Pratt's target audience would be males more than females....
But also, just how strong do young females flock to see a movie because of an actor nowadays?

As for the kids, this is an interesting number considering Common Sense Media gave this a rating of 13+

Why is Trevorrow getting so much hate? He did a good job on JW.

- All of the characters were either stupid, an a**hole or a combination of both.

- That Zara death scene is needlessly cruel.

- The movie actually trying to pull an Aliens style subplot that makes no sense (and also somehow getting me to dislike Vincent D'Onofrio in something, which is a crime in of itself).

- The always reliable Michael Giacchino somehow making a score so generic, especially in a franchise known for great music.

I could probably list some others but these are the reasons that spring to mind.

Personally.... I think he's too arrogant and has ownership issues.
My dislike for this guy comes in and out...

I wasn't a huge fan of Safety Not Guaranteed.
I liked what he did with Jurassic World.
I thought Book of Henry was a distasteful heap of crap that was masterfully shot.
I thought that he was unjustly fired from Star Wars...
And I hate what he did to JW Fallen Kingdom...

For starters, further pursuing the two story lines that EVERYBODY pretty much unanimously agreed did not fit with the franchise.
Pushing for ownership of the franchise by destroying Isla Nublar for no good reason whatsoever.
And also, I just hate his smug and fake interactions with the fans. It's like he's trying too hard to connect with the fans and no doubt using that as reason to make more profit... There's just a lot of fakeness to him.

But perhaps the worst thing to me was him hiring the person who wrote Pacific Rim 2 and then publicly claiming that she's still a good choice.
This is where I lost respect for this guy.

Universal hired Emily Carmichael (I suspect purely because of the Me Too movement and Greta Gerwig) when her only big writing credit was Pacific Rim 2. JP fans were not pleased by this, especially considering how many people disliked Pacific Rim 2. They tweeted their worries online and she responded by saying that she was asked to write a movie about Robots VS Monsters, so she felt like she did did her job. And Colin Trevorrow supported that response... I HATED that response.....

You should never admit to churning out crap just because you were tasked to do it. The first Pacific Rim was about "Robots VS Monsters" but still had a decent script. You can't blame the studio or the movie for a script just because you couldn't find the muse to write a good one. You're a screenwriter. What does it say about you if you can't write a good script with any premise? I've seen far worse premises get good scripts. For heck's sake, UP was about a house flying with balloons, Ratatouille was about a rat that cooks, Zootopia was about discrimination rights... A good screenwriter should be able to turn any premise into something good, and if you can't do that, then it is your fault, and not the studio's or the movie's.... It just really pissed me off because it further solidified that Hollywood legitimately doesn't care about the quality of movies that cost 100mil+...

Also, the worst aspect of Pacific Rim 2 was the Monster VS Robot fight.

The fact that Trevorrow stood by that response just pissed me off... Especially given the complaints laid out by the fans in that the first movie was too popcorn flicky and not serious enough like the first JP.

My wife and I saw this yesterday in 3D in Atmos and let me tell you I was blown away. This was loud and at times just a tad bit too loud. We both fully enjoyed this to the max, worth every penny and the trip out of town to see it. I already had this pre-ordered on Friday. Heck even my wife said to go and pre-order this...

Erm, you do realise Pacific Rim 2 was released when JW:FK was practically wrapping post-production. No amount of whinging could change the script. Nevermind when the screenplay was written the MeToo campaign wasn’t even started yet.

Default Dolby Cinema For The Roar

Yes, Dolby Cinema for me, and it was absolutely terrific. Plenty of Atmos(phere), including one showstopper.

I have noticed for films with a significant number of children in the audience, e.g., Incredibles 2, our AMC will lower the volume for DC. For JW:FK, it was perfect for JW:FK. For BR2049, it was louder, which was perfect for BR.

Combined with the seat transducers for the bass and rumble, hand in hand with the Dolby Vision projection and blackout setting, it's the best experience for screening a film by far.

Trailers:
  • MI: Fallout
  • Spider-man: Into The Spider-verse
  • Welcom to Marwen
  • Creed II
  • A Star Is Born
  • Ant-Man and The Wasp
  • Grinch

There were so many well-executed moments in this film, can't wait to see it again, but may have to wait until the UHD given that summer is here and the slate is full.

Not to mention Bayona's next, which reads very promising.

I think I'll have to add an additional 30 minutes to my time spent seeing this movie based on the amount of trailers.

I havent seen this film yet but Im shocked that blu-ray.com gave it an 8/10 and they basically trashed Tomb Raider(2018) which is right up the same alley so to speak. I mean...8/10 for this versus like 2/10 or whatever for Tomb Raider? Yikes. Both are pretty much by-the-numbers action flicks that dont ask much(meaning dont worry about thinking, just watch the mayhem) from the viewers. Popcorn flicks. Right?

Ill rent it and see but 8/10 seems awfully high compared to what a lot of folks here and elsehwhere are saying. I realize its just one opinion but still....????

Agreed.

When J.A. Bayona was announced as the director, my first thought was, "we're finally getting a great JP sequel". Well, here we are - I thought there was nothing distinctive about the directing in FK. In fact, I think JW is a more "well-made" film, comparatively. The fact that Trevorrow will finish the trilogy himself is no cause for concern anymore. I welcome it. It'll be his baby, having co-written all three and directed two.

The last 3D film I saw was Jurassic World. I may not be just judge of what is a good 3D film, but it seemed to work out well.

Tomb Raider was not perfect but was far, far better than JW:FK. JW:FK is quite well directed but because of the TERRIBLE screenplay all it has going for it is "dinosaurs are fun" which is all this franchise really is now. At least the effects were way better here than in Jurassic World so the "dinosaurs are fun" could at least be enjoyed.
