It is very blatant at times even when watching and then at other times not so much. It is not the compositing SFX issue with the costume color but more of the usual recoloring that started appearing on WB newer masters around this era. The color is only affected on the new masters made for the set: I and II theatrical, III and IV.

None of that coloring was on the no fade early 1980's LPP print I saw theatrically three years ago. Being the geek I am I was specifically looking for color and sound differences.

It says 151 minutes, but I doubt it will include the Director's cut.

I've really wanted to revisit these first two films for a long time but couldn't bring myself to do it - now I have a reason to. That theme song is still epic. Every time Superman I or II would air on TV it was always an event for me. Great films.

Not just the main theme,

Best movie score ever written IMO. John Williams wrote at least 5 incredible pieces of music for this....

Hearing the Love Theme over the end credits makes it feel like I finished the greatest experience I could have just by watching a comic-based movie.

Just curious, why not? The BDs are very solid for BD.

Remember, this is tentative....for those in Germany. We here in the US will more than likely get the 143 min. theatrical cut since it is that version that is being restored in 4K. We do not know if all three versions will be included here either. Nothing official has been announced, but be patient. All will be known in good time.

I used the wrong wording - I meant to say I could never find the right moment. I wanted to immerse myself in the entire series and just finding the time was problematic.

To update you all...up to this point what we are hearing are rumors. Nothing definitive, I'm afraid. Also, Criterion has announced its November lineup, and (at least for now) SUPERMAN is not one of their titles. As Criterion announces their lineups on the 15th of each month, Sept. 15 will be the day we all find out if Criterion will release their first ever 4K UHD, or will it be an in-house WB release. At this point, it appears that it will be an in-house issue.

All I can say em conclusion for now...continue to be patient. Super things may happen to those who wait.

Criterion? Wut? Warners wouldn't license out one of their crown jewels unless they were offered enough money to make Croesus blush. When the house that Mulvaney built is outbid by the likes of Kino to land the Dollars movies then I can't see that happening.

WB has licensed some stuff out recently. Barry Lyndon was released on Criterion and Trick r Treat is getting a Scream Factory release this year. I'm sure there are others but those are the only two I can think of at the moment.

Superman on Criterion would be cool though

What exactly is Criterion going to do that can't be done by WB or hasn't already been done?!

It's sorta like Jaws - this is one of those movies that's been treated very well in the special features department

So not happening, it's a massive cash cow

Barry Lyndon ain't Superman, no matter how badass Ryan O'Neal looks in period costume

Point is there's no real reason to root for a Criterion of Superman over an in-house release, and in fact an in-house release would likely be better given Criterion's compression issues.

I'd be interested in seeing what Criterion could do with the release.

They're no worse or better than a competent major studio doing the work themselves... it's the extras where Criterion can shine if the behind the scenes material is made available for inclusion as extras and/or for making a doc.

Sometimes they're only the distributor for other companies that own a particular film and have done their own home video master.

Problems in the past have cropped up with Criterion having to do with the compression software being used and artifacts have shown up from time to time. Hopefully, things would change since they would have to use H.265 HEVC encoders and not out of date H.264 stuff for UHD Blu-ray's.
