if you want to look at the glass half full scenario.... then maybe this isn't such a terrible thing after all... this way people can read reviews of these releases before buying and won't get stuck with that occasional "recall" release....

My sentiments exactly. I been burned too many times in terms of dealing with various technical issues with their discs and/or disc replacement programs. I've learned my lesson.

USA Finally

I finally got my Tingler bluray from shout factory today. I should of gotten my copy over a week ago as I paid expedited shipping. I'm disappointed with shout factory's shipping. I have Creepshow, Sleepwalkers and the Critters collection pre-ordered at the shout factory website with expedited shipping so here's hoping they aren't late shipping those out to me!!

I'm not buying the domestic bluray of The Tingler, although I'm sure it looks fine.

Indicator has announced the first in a series of U.K. boxsets devoted to William Castle. Volume 1 in October. Indicator has done an impeccable job with Hammer films, and I expect they will do the same for this director. I'm buying the Indicator box-sets.

I'll wait until Indicator announces the titles for volume 2 before I fill in with domestic releases.

You should request a refund on shipping. They haven’t been keeping up with ‘Get it 2 weeks early’ lately...

I did order the Scream Factory edition of The Tingler right when it was announced, and I've already received the disc, but I also double-dipped and ordered the Powerhouse/Indicator William Castle set.

It's superfluous, especially since I'm double-dipping on all four Castle titles that I already own, but Powerhouse tends to put out the “final version” releases of well-loved films.

I'm going to keep the Scream disc and place it in my Vincent Price Blu-ray bin, but then put my William Castle set in my Classic Horror bin.

The Hammer Indicator sets are top-notch, and I expect the William Castle set will be of the same caliber. I'm looking forward to the WC set in October.

I'm quite a fan of William Castle. His genre films were small and cheap but dramatically viable and entertaining. He was an entertainer. I even like his westerns, especially Masterson of Kansas (1954). I was about to binge-buy all the new William Castle blurays to upgrade from my old DVD's until I saw the Indicator box. I'll buy that and the second one. Soon as they announce which titles are in the second box, that's when I'll upgrade with domestic blurays not included therein. The one film of his that no one mentions is his Hammer film remake of The Old Dark House (1963). It drops off the radar of most Hammer collectors. Columbia / Sony control it. I'm hoping it will be in volume 2.

I think the remake of The Old Dark House is overlooked in the Hammer Film cannon because its so unlike the type of films that Hammer did previously, and later became known for. I've always felt that Tom Poston was miscast as the lead because he doesn't quite have the gravitas or the knack to pull off the kind of cheeky humor that was required for the role. Granted, the humor and the tone of the original novel is challenging to bring to the silver screen, and I don't think the original 1930s film was any more successful in doing that, but nevertheless it would still be good to have the Castle/Hammer version of the film as part of a subsequent Indicator/Powerhouse collection of William Castle films.

Though I’ve seen no mention of it from Indicator, I really hope they include a couple ghost viewers in the box for 13 Ghosts. Seems like the most obvious piece of ”swag” ever. And probably relatively inexpensive to produce.

The addition of the Ghost Viewers would be a cool inclusion to the set. There was no mention of it, but it would be a nice surprise to find the glasses in the set and be able to see 13 Ghosts as it was originally intended to be seen.

I love both of those films because they reflect the dark humor of the director of the film, which to me is more important than the person who writes the book. I also don't think that Castle films look cheap. They achieve what they set out to do well. I think Baby Jane has a cheapness to the way it looks sometimes, particularly when the camera isn't focused on Davis and Crawford.

I'm fine with the Mill Creek discs, unless the Indicator box drops down to the level that the first Hammer box has fallen to in Canada.

I hope the second Indicator box will include Macabre (1958), The House On Haunted Hill (1959), Zotz! (1962) and The Old Dark House (color 1963).

I agree that Castle's film acheive what they set out do very well. I meant to say Castle's horror films were made on extremely small budgets, smaller than usual for backlot productions, and were shot quickly. His films aren't under-produced because they are not ambitious. They don't look deprived of anything they needed to tell the story. Despite the fast shooting schedules his films are technically polished because he and his team were highly skilled filmmakers.

Of all his films, I think Mr. Sardonicus is the most sophisticated and smartly made. It uses set design, shadows and a few dutch angles more than his other films. It has atmosphere and style.

That lineup of movies would be perfect for a second collection of his films.

I've always felt that William Castle was a practical and efficient filmmaker who knew how to work within the confines of a modest film budget.

I really like his cinematography and lighting. It isn't just functional, it has a look to it that is very much of the day. I saw his last picture with Marcel Marceau recently. It had a lot of fun ideas and good looking shots too. (At least until the motorcycle gang invaded at the end!)

I wish I would have waited for this set as I have all but The Tingler w/Mill Creek Entertainment

... I'll just get The Tingler separate as I'll not double-dip (maybe b/c of the great special features though I might )!

If I had been able to preorder the title from wowHD I would have already done that. Since Shout tried to force me to buy the title from them or amazon for inflated prices I'll happily opt for this UK collection.

MACABRE is with Warner.

I'd like to see LET'S KILL UNCLE included in the next Castle box, if it can be acquired from Universal.

Funny that as an 8 year old child watching (from behind my hands in front of my eyes) "The Tingler" in my palace of dreams, the Linda Theater in San Diego, the part of the movie that is most imprinted on my memory is the bathtub filled with blood (and what comes out of it!). I have no recollection of that scene being in color despite how vivid it still is in my mind. Could it be that not all prints contained the color segment? Just curious, and can't wait to revisit the film after such a long time.
