Never seen a Big Daddy and I feel like my eyes would have spotted it immediately since Bioshock is one of my all-time favorites. But some of those scenes are pretty crowded so I guess it could be there. In any case, if the bothered to include it it's just a shame it's basically hidden in the backgroud since those things can kick some serious ass. On a side note, I really wish they would have included Solaire of Astora from Dark Souls. That would be a solid avatar.

Yeah I'm a BioShock fan as well and I feel like it'd be relatively easy to spot. I read someone saying that he's next to one of the big spider robots and you can hear the drill, and I've read that Ryu from Street Fighter attacks him in the final battle but I don't see any of this. I've even resorted to watching my 4K in slow motion but nothing.

Got my french 4K/3D version today. Unfortunately, had trouble with the redeeming process and wasn't able to link my redeemed code to my UV account

On the french side (using a proxy), they make you use the still existing flixtervideo site to redeem. I was able to do this months ago with Justice League by logging in to my existing flixter account, which I then linked to my UV account. Had some trouble figuring that out, but it eventually worked. Today, tried to log in to my flixter account, and no go. It apparently recognized that I created that account in the US. So I went to create a new flixter account and I was able to redeem on there, but then it wouldn't connect to my UV account because I already had the old flixter account connected. So I created a new UV account, connected that, and then went to my existing UV account and tried to do a library merge. It acted like it was going to work, but then the merge failed and it deleted my new UV account anyway. The movie still appeared redeemed on flixter, so I had one other idea to try. Unlink the old flixter account (risking the loss of my Justice League copy) and then linking the new flixter account to my UV account. I unlinked, and Justice League was still in my vudu, so so far so good, but then I went to flixter and tried to link my UV, and I got some error "You have exceeded the number of different WB Movies All Access or Flixster Video accounts you can link to your UltraViolet Library. If you need help, please contact customer support." so unfortunately that didn't work either. But even if it did I'm not 100% convinced it would connect my existing redeem to my regular UV account. It might have been tied to the new UV account that got deleted.

I might try again in a day or two to try to relink flixter and UV, but I'm not expecting much. Eh whatever I still have the disc, but my family uses that UV library, so it kind of sucks when I can't get the code to work

That may be, (though I would probably disagree re: The Winter Soldier), but I was talking about Speilgberg's overall body of work and not just the stuff he's done Johnny come lately. On those I would agree with the exception of Ready Player One. I found that one to be one of Speilberg's best in such a long time (10 years perhaps).

I'm just not seeing it with Ready Player One, but I only watched it once and a lot of times I like movies better the second go, so we'll see. It being 90% a CGI film is a knock against it for me right at the starting gate, so maybe my bias is showing there a bit. I'm not the biggest fan of animation.

I think the excessive callbacks/references/fanservice does the movie a great disservice. The movie is overly "busy" and messy, with too much crap flying on the screen all the time. I don't like the uncanny valley effect, which this movie has in spades.
I think the story itself is overly simplistic and uninspired. It's essentially a badly written video game, set in a video game environment. Throw in all the pop culture references you want, but if there's no substance to back up that eye candy, then the homages aren't "cool", just a hollow diversion.
I can't stand the lack of logic connecting the real world and CGI world action... when someone tosses and/or catches an item in the Oasis, their partner is always positioned exactly the same way in the real world. Too convenient. It's intended to be cool and fun to watch "because it's just a movie", sure, but I keep thinking how restrictive it would be moving around in the Oasis if you actually had to REMAIN in the same position as your real life counterparts... and then what if they were miles apart, would this still happen?
Even worse is when there are 100 players in a big room, and in Oasis they are moving in and out all over the map, obviously not situated in the exact same position as they are in the real world, but then when an AOE takes out 20 people, it just oh-so-conveniently takes out 20 players in the real world in a single glob... instead of seeing red lights on suits spread out in weird clumps and clusters like it should. This kind of stuff really frustrates me.
Additionally, that 11 year old kid is sooo freaking annoying. Throw in Spielberg's histrionics and it all turns into a jumbled mess.
I'm not sure a second viewing will fix any of this for me.

You shouldn't have to replace it at all. It's better than the newer X700 and at that price range it can't be beat. It's basically the x1000es without the little lcd panel (which personally I would find a distraction anyway). Great player imo.

This didn't come close to The Adventures of Tintin for me. I think that's the most fun Spielberg movie in a long time. RPO was a big let down for me in comparison.

Sure, but it has a problem with Warner discs which Sony doesn't seem able or willing to fix. MANY complaints about it across the web, I'm not the only one.

I am right there with you on the CGI element and it usually can be a knock against the movie for me these days. However, I found that not to be the case with this movie. I think that's because a lot of the story takes place in a virtual world setting where nothing is real and everything is animated. Just like video games. So I knew going in that it had to have a massive amount of CGI, but I think at the same time the movie underlying theme about how bad it is to be disconnected from the world living in a "virtual" world all the time comes through with the CGI. That perhaps wouldn't come through so well otherwise. Not to mention it's not really a random built "virtual" world. It's really the world of its creator. Like being inside someone's mind. The movie blended both (CGI and the practical world) so well. It helps that ILM was responsible for the CGI too.

Have you tried cleaning the discs? I remember reading about these issues and people resolved them by simply cleaning the discs (not just with a microfiber, but actual cleaning). It sounds silly but apparently it solves the Warner disc issues (which btw happens on other players too I believe).

I don't really blame the movie for using CG like it does, and the CG is good enough. I'm just saying it's mostly an animated movies and I don't really like animated movies.

I cleaned them the normal way with a microfiber cloth and disc cleaning solution. Not sure what you mean by "actual cleaning" beyond that.

I agree with this. I'm not a fan of too much usage of CGI but if the story takes place in a virtual world, that isn't trying to imitate real life, I can totally be ok with it. It's the same reason I like the Tron movies.

But I was skimming through a bit of Avengers: Infinity War last night (first 20 minutes) and the amount of shots that had some kind of CGI background was ridiculous. Especially considering some of them could easily have been photographed in a real location. Even the CGI'd suits that spiderman and Iron Man wear look silly. It looks like their heads have been badly photoshopped onto the CGI body.

I meant with a cleaning product, or even soap. I wonder if isopropyl might work since some don't want to use detergent on a disc. Myself I would probably favor that. So far I haven't had to do this but I remember reading threads where people said WB 4k discs weren't reading properly and freezing and after cleaning it stopped.

Hmmm... might try it, thanks for trying to help. It seems like a somewhat frequent issue with the Sony X800, but you never know.

Even though I'm one of those kind of gamers that normally rolls my eyes at normie gamers and their "i understood that reference" cake is a lie/arrow to the knee ways... it's nice not to feel super cynical sometimes. I actually think the style of it was reminiscent of Minority Report and Artificial Intelligence.

Thought the CG was amazing (Infinity War really blew me away too), and it got me pretty excited for the Battle Angel Alita movie thinking about that specific kind of CG look.

I wasn't sure if I'd like it, so I just rented the BD, but wish I'd just bought the UHD. The past few months were just too packed with releases. Will pick it up when it's on sale again.

Even though I left for six months to play a ton of games again I don't really think of myself as a "gamer." I only play one type of game... PC singleplayer RPGs... and I don't involve myself at all with gamer communities. I do post on GOG.com a bit, but not very often, and I don't really "get" most of the people I'm talking to.

Feel much more at home on forums like this with my movie bros.

I'm not a gamer and wasn't sure I'd like it so I just rented the BD from Netflix disc by mail. I really liked it so bought a UHD without digital code off eBay for a good price, gonna watch it tonight.

Infinity War is on rental embargo until September so I want to buy the UHD but Amazon still doesn't have it in stock the weekend after release date, their stupid feud with Disney. I have a $125 in gift certificates with Amazon so I'd rather buy it there, but if they don't have in stock by next week I'll break down and buy from Walmart.

Boy, am I glad I rented this for $0.80 from Redbox first. What happened, Spielberg?? It was a mess of a film and about as shallow as a first person shooter. The acting was utterly Styrofoam-grade bland. The script was hackneyed and stale without an ounce of real peril felt... just an orgasmic lights and Atmos objects show... and a cool drinking game for every BTTF reference they threw in. They picked some of the worst actors they could find and said... you're hired! I was actually hoping some of the characters would simply die because I felt nothing for them. I feel really badly for Simon Pegg.

And what was the moral of the story, if any? Your world has gone to shit, so just plug in and tune out... except maybe for one day a week to make out with your girlfriend. Wow! So moving. :sarcasm:

I'm not looking forward to another crack at Indy if this is the best he can do now.
