One real obscurity in the Universal library that seems right in Kino's ballpark is the undeservedly neglected Fritz Lang romantic comedy proto-noir with a Kurt Weill score (yes, you did read that right), 1938's You and Me with Sylvia Sidney and George Raft. Lang thought it was one of his worst films after it bombed, but it's actually a quirky and unexpected little charmer.

Fritz Lang's You and Me. Excellent suggestion. There are no competitive editions out there to speak of.

I would like too see Georg Wilhelm Pabst's The Threepenny Opera (1931) on bluray. That is pure 100% grade A Kurt Weill.

We need more UFA on bluray. There are many restorations of UFA films that never make it to bluray, for some reason.

I third You and Me should be on BD. I saw a VHS a decade ago and it’s a gem.

KLInsider - I've pre-ordered The Outer Limits Season 2 (and already bought Season One), and have already pre-ordered your upcoming TV Specials including the Night Stalker films and Trilogy of Terror.

My questions is: Will there be more full season sets of multiple-episode genre television shows coming?

Wow, a Fritz Lang rom-com starring George Raft and Sylvia Sydney. Bizarro, count me in!

Pretty sure that's still with MGM.

Make it happen Kino.
Shout Factory has a deal with Warner Bros, so they would be the ones to talk to.

Wait until you see the scene where Sidney quite literally proves to a toy department full of thugs with ugly mugs exactly why crime doesn't pay.

Universal has released in on DVD, both in a noir box set and as a standalone item, but it would be nice get a blu-ray upgrade.

While I've never seen it, I see the G.W. Pabst film, The Loves of Jeanne Ney that stars Metropolis leading lady, Brigitte Helm, was released in Germany. I see Kino previously released it on DVD. Wonder if this would be a possibility down the line?

Coming to DVD and Blu-ray on November 20th from Kino Classics and the Library of Congress!

PIONEERS: FIRST WOMEN FILMMAKERS
Executive Producer: Illeana Douglas

A monumental 6-disc set including over 50 films, accompanied by an 80-page booklet.

In the early decades of cinema, some of the most innovative and celebrated filmmakers in America were women. Alice Guy-Blaché helped establish the basics of cinematic language, while others boldly continued its development: slapstick queen Mabel Normand, action star Grace Cunard, and LGBTQ icon Alla Nazimova. Unafraid of controversy, filmmakers such as Lois Weber and Dorothy Davenport Reid tackled explosive issues such as birth control, abortion, and prostituion. This crucial chapter of film history comes alive through the presentation of a wide assortment of films (spanning 1911-1929), carefully curated, meticulously restored in 2K and 4K archival sources, and presented with new musical scores.

Special features (DVD and Blu-ray):
*80-page booklet with essays and photos
*Interviews with historians and archivists
*Musical scores by Renee C. Baker, The Berklee Silent Film Orchestra, Makia Matsumura, Maud Nelissen, Dana Reason, Aleksandra Vrebalov, and others

DVD (6 discs)
*Total Running Time approx. 1,320 minutes

Blu-ray (6 discs) - over six additional hours of material
*Total Running Time approx. 1,710 minutes

Disc 1: Alice Guy-Blaché
Disc 2: Lois Weber
Disc 3: Genre Pioneers
Disc 4: Social Commentary (Part 1)
Disc 5: Social Commentary (Part 2)
Disc 6: The Feature Film

Curator: Shelley Stamp
Producer: Bret Wood
Executive Producer: Illeana Douglas

Super stoked for Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers! I'm woefully ignorant of women filmmakers, so this should be quite an education. With this and the Bergman set, November is going to be an expensive month.

KLInsider, any possibility you all would get An American Werewolf in Paris (1997) from Disney?

Good news... got my shipping notice last night for my Kino sale order that includes Cabin Boy. Bad news... I ordered mine standard shipping and it's coming FedEx smartpost so it will probably arrive a week after CB streets.

I'd love to see a clear print of this. I've only seen it on YouTube and you couldn't tell pink jungle from grey jungle from green jungle.

That THE LONGEST YARD hasn't received a release boggles the mind. It's up there with THE BAD NEWS BEARS as one of the best sports-based films of the 1970's and inexplicably neither has a Blu-ray.

HUSTLE is one of those movies that nobody seems to have seen. I think it's some of Burt's best work. Gritty and brutal film. If not for Burt, do it for Catherine Deneuve. She alone deservers hi-def.

Oh great film! Bend of the River is one of my favorite Mann-Stewart collaborations. Probably either that one or The Man from Laramie (though I haven't seen The Naked Spur yet).
