The BD does not look sharpened. Backwards Jim Cameron thinks everything looks sharpened. The UHD has a filtering error. I believe the streaming UHD version doesn't have that problem, proving it's a disc issue.

It's undeniable a part of the image, but if you have to zoom in 400% to see it then it's mild at best, and no more/less what many other conventional Blu-rays would have. The other part would be actual definable picture detail in the BD that has been summarily low-pass filtered off on the UHD.

When are they going to fix this disaster of a UHD disc.
DETAIL HAS BEEN LOST FROM THE BD. ITS SIMPLY NOT THERE ANYMORE ON THE UHD. You can say BD is sharpened all you want, but the FACT is the UHD has been massively softened and detail is gone. Get a new TV or glasses or something. There are so many that agree with this - professional reviewers, many of us. Just in my circles, I’ve shown the comparisons to many videofiles (easy to do back to back A/B with an HTPC) and everyone was in unanimous agreement. While the HDR is jaw dropping, the hyper-softened look on most of the UHD was a serious detriment to PQ and ruined the movie for a lot of us. It is no longer reference material, and that’s sad as the BD is. Plain and simple. They need to reissue this obviously flawed UHD disc. |

Look how much more pop and luscious colors the UHD delivers...Definetely demo worthy |

The UHD definitely has a luscious warmth to it that a lot of people really like. That's why it's sadly not easy to say which version is best, you have to pick your priority between detail and lovely HDR.

I suspect even moreso will back that preference when I get the OLED panel. But I have the blu-ray, too, so it's a case of if I was of a mind to watch it in a different mood I can. This is a film I love enough that I'd like to own many a version of it eventually. (steel, blu, 4K, streaming/digital; you name it) |
