I finished watching Revolutions and although there were some truly amazing scenes, I didn't feel it quite reached The Matrix and Reloaded in terms of PQ.
Detail was about the same as Reloaded: Great skin and clothing detail (the tattered burgandy sweaters they were wearing stood out). There was a fine layer of grain throughout (this was in Reloaded as well). Good shadow detail, particularly in the fight in the ship between Neo and Bane. With regard to HDR, there wasn't as many demo worthy scenes as was in Reloaded, but there was some standouts: The contrast between the reds and greens in the Merovingian's club were striking. The green in the Oracles kitchen looked lush. The final battle between Smith and Neo was spectacular. I will say that during this scene the Matrix had much less of a green tint than the old Blu-ray. The most visually impressive part of the movie for me was when Neo and Trinity arrived at the machine city. The reds and blues really popped, and contrasted very well with the black/grey sky. Another worthy upgrade, but not as stunning a transfer as the first two movies, IMHO. But YMMV. |

In all previous releases of The Matrix Revolutions the Machine that carries Neo has green eyes.
Back in the day people actually claimed they didn't remember this in the cinema, and speculated it was added for the DVD to tie it to The Animatrix's story "Matriculated", which shows that friendly Machines have green eyes. The 4K master aside of featuring widely different color timing that removes much of the vibrant blue-ish tones from real worlds scenes, it also reverts the colors of the Machine's eyes to red. For what is worth, conceptual designer George Hull had this palette in mind when drawing visuals for the final act / Machine City stuff:

I sold the code from the set for $30. I also sold the solo Matrix disc, (sans any artwork), for $16, so this set has cost nothing in the end.

No, I hate the colony scenes. I think I was thinking of Hansel & Gretel because the theatrical cut came to UHD not long ago and I couldn't pull the trigger on it.
There's also unrated cuts that just add a little violence or whatever which I'm fine with. Robocop, The Punisher (80s), etc. Overall though I tend to prefer theatrical cuts. |

I usually always prefer theatrical cuts as well. There is cases like the Town where I watched the extended cut then sat through the UHD which only has the theatrical and things felt off but once I watch it a few times I prefer the theatrical.
