Ah, makes sense. Thanks!

Yep. I've spent plenty on GoT. I'll take a complete series set in 4K for under $100.

I still expect the future seasons on 4k. Most likely in the years after the end of GoT. First they will release a big limited complete series box on blu-ray. Then 1-2 year later a 4k set will follow. Even if they don't release the other seasons in 4k I'm still glad with S1. Better than nothing.

This is my mindset as well. The only issue I see HBO having is seeing a lack of season 1 UHD sales which will inevitably cancel out a box set.

I think it's folly to expect that a 4K set will never surface.

It's not a question of IF, it's a question of WHEN.

If sales of season one 4K were really low, it just means that HBO will wait longer (perhaps some years longer) than they otherwise would to release the 4K set. I'm sure they realize that their high season prices on Game of Thrones have somewhat saturated the market/desire to spend more.

In any case, I hope the last season has a 4K release that occurs at the same time as the Blu-ray release.

I doubt it. They're trying to make more cash by selling them individually, but if that fails they'll still want the cash a complete set would provide. I get why more niche stuff like Oz and Six Feet Under have been left to languish on DVD, but Game of Thrones will keep getting released and re-released forever.

Default Subtitle Mistake

Anyone else notice the subtitle mistake in S01E08? At the 28:44 mark. It's supposed to say "have" but says "haven"

The thing is, I'm not expecting the boxset to necessarily work out cheaper than 8 single releases on Day 1, I just have no desire to pick these up again unless they're all available. Also, HBO are terribly inconsistent with GoT packaging so a boxset would solve that presentation issue.

I'll pick up the full series on UHD when released. Otherwise, no purchase from you.

Bought this blind and enjoyed the season and the quality of the 4k discs. Did the same with West World and pre-ordered WW Season 2. If I don’t hear any news by January I’ll buy the Blu Ray set of GoT.

Yeah no way I’m buying each set individually. I’ll wait a few years then pick them up cheap. HBO seasons prices always drop significantly. Besides, it’s not like the BD’s are bad.

You should've grabbed the new Game of Thrones: Seasons 1-7 Blu-ray set, when Amazon had it on sale for $55.00 a few months ago. I went to Best Buy, and they've price matched it. Now it's a $120.00.

So did season 1 not sell well in 4k? Is that why we haven't gotten a season 2 yet. Or will these just be a slow release. Thought they might have wanted these all out by the time season 8 releases. I have been holding off on season 7 just in case it comes out in 4k later.

You wanna take this one, Peter?

"Sir, how do you feel about having spent yet another $50 on the 4K UHD disc set of GoT S1? Why is season 2 taking so long? In hindsight, do you really feel like you made a wise investment in this program? Is there anything you'd like to say to the people?" *shoves microphone in face*

No one really knows. It might have sold poorly, which resulted in not releasing 2. Sopranos Season One on BD had that happen. I'd guess many are like me, and waiting for a complete set or not that excited for an expensive upgrade of a TV show (amazing production values TV show or not).

Game of Thrones is going to get disc releases out the ying-yang for a long time I suspect, so maybe season 2 comes eventually or maybe we see a complete UHD set a year after the final season comes out. Hard to say.

Unless they piss everyone off with a poor ending. I would never buy a complete series no matter how good the show if it had a stupid ending.

Well the show has the same ending as the books, the writers have confirmed that. They've just taken a different route to get there. So the ending is the one that was planned since the beginning. It just depends on if the masses will find that ending satisfying, especially since George RR Martin has described it as a very bittersweet ending.
