Returned it to the store in the end and they were more helpful and swapped it for another of the same model which isn't as bad and I still have and took out 3-year repair or replace insurance with the store at the same time.

Couple this with OLED burn-in, and potentially you have an issue. I certainly wouldn't trust them to help if I bought an OLED and it got burn-in even with appropriate careful use. Third party insurance is the only way to go as they don't give a damn once they have your money.
No company has good customer service anymore. Samsung put me through several rounds of nightmares years ago back when I was a Samsung owner. They are the absolute worst. I do own a Samsung phone because it was a great price on Black Friday but I'll never buy another TV from them.

I used to own a Samsung phone, but the battery blew up within the warranty period and they wanted $300 to repair it because of another issue they found (that wasn't in any way a problem) that they insisted had to be fixed if anything was going to be fixed. So now I own a Pixel.

This thread started out as a debate on the merits of HDR... before turning into a competition where people bash each other's choice of TV set. I guess we're now at the 'who has the worst customer service stage'? But don't blame me. I didn't start any of it.

I was going to say - I rarely read that many good customer support stories from any company these days. Its as if its cheaper for them to piss you off and lose a customer than it is to replace or repair the product. Maybe it is?

That being said, there are people that have had good experiences but they arent nearly as likely to post such things. Its the same issue, ironically, as the burin-in OLED thing. People that DONT have burn in simply dont answer the polls & post it on forums. Same for other issues with various other TVs and techs. When users are content they tend not to share that. Forums are to discuss problems and sort out issues.

Its boring to post things like" I love my TV and everything is great". Right?

You know, sometimes I'm jealous of those who can happily still watch DVDs on any old cheap TV and not care less.

I'd have saved an absolute fortune.

You think you two have it bad. I can't even watch "special interest" movies without nitpicking or worrying about the picture quality. I've been known to buy a "SI" DVD and then buy the 4K UHD download of said "SI" DVD because It's not available on UHD. I want every movie I watch (no matter what the content) to be in stunning 4K/Blu-ray quality.

I would love to not care about quality and be blissful by DVD or blu-ray masters since I already have all my favs in that quality... But at this point I'm itching for some daily 4K UHD fix by years end, and collecting a title a week. Need 'dem crayons

Annoying part is I'm more or less fine watching a DVD when it's the only option, or an old BD master. After 5 minutes I don't really think about it anymore and just enjoy the movie.

When there's a better option though, I find it impossible to ignore.

I'm the same way. In fact, I recently purchased a DVD (it's not on Blu-ray or UHD) and found that there was also a 4K download version of the movie as well. So I HAD to download the 4K version as well. Well, the file is too big for my external hard drive so I bought a 50 pack spindle of blank Blu-ray discs to burn a data disc copy I can play on my Oppo (I don't have the capabilities yet to burn 4K UHD discs, but will soon). Come to find out my burning software is so old it won't burn onto Blu-ray discs. So I HAD to upgrade the burning software. After all is said and done I spent close to $80 dollars to be able to watch a 4k version of said DVD.

Interesting video about RDR2, since it was discussed earlier in the thread. The HDR is "fake" and a mess on both PS4 and Xbox. Vincent recommends turning it off for this game.
