When they say new master, I think they just mean to the French territory, clever advertising. Will end up been most probably similar to the Japanese / German set but using the Italian 4k master for the Argento Cut.

Not getting my hopes up, but stranger things have happened like the German release of The Warriors ended up been the theatrical cut.

Well official rights anyway. Don't forget, the film is in the public domain.

Yep I suspect the US Theatrical and Cannes Cuts will be the same awful transfers.

So uh, yeah, high hopes for this. They got so much funding that they're actually going to do a 4K rescan of the European version of the film (go figure) along with an open-matte version of it. Considering how I'm an Argento Cut fan, this excites me since the Midnight Factory release was a bit lackluster in some aspects.
Why would they include an open matte version just like the Italian set? Sounds very fishy to me, as people are saying this will likely just recycle various masters. I'd love to see what a competent handling of the Argento Cut IP would look like though, no pink fluorescent lights for a start (which, BTW, if are present on this "4K rescan" of the Argento then that's the exact same video master as the Italian version).

It's been confirmed that as they were so close to reaching the UHD goal, they'll be doing a UHD for the European cut.

Curious.

If it's anything like the Italian UHD then it'll be a complete and utter waste of time.

Indeed. They do say "notre master 4K", but yeah, marketing can mean anything. Wait and see. I didn't bother contributing anyway due to the film's situation.

as mentioned many times the rights are just to costly for anyone to pickup and make a decent (if any) profit.

If Criterion, Arrow, or Scream released a set with all three cuts, and all the extras (basically replicating the AB Ultimate DVD set), that's an instant must-buy for every horror fan.

Not even horror fan, but good movie fans. However he still wants way too much to license it, last I heard.

Really waiting for this to happen. Watched a bunch of horror films before Halloween and became a little frustrated that a good ultimate edition of this film hasn't happen on Blu-ray. I want the extended cut on blu.

U.S. Theatrical Version for me, please. But all 3 would be nice as each version has its merits

Me too. While the extended cut has good bits and it's interesting to see the Argento cut, the extended is a bit too long for me and Argento's has too much Goblin music and some really weird edits (skipping the first truck and picking it up with Roger already with The Blood Lust is a weird decision).

USA or bust for me.

I like a lot of the character bits added in the extended cut but it does end up feeling a little too long. I've only watched the European cut once, so I don't remember much of the differences in it other than it being the shortest. The theatrical cut is ultimately my favorite of the three cuts.

Does the theatrical cut contain anything that the extended does not? Or does the extended contain the entire theatrical cut and then some?

Greedy is what he is! he doesn't think clearly and only wants money as he should understand that 3D is dead.

Money. Some kind of instinct....it's an important thing in his life.

Bastardised Dawn quote aside, his ego won't let him swallow the bad investment over the 3D conversion, and he'd rather let the value of a re-release rot than declare the loss by his own folly.
