If I would have a 1080 screen I would run to the store and buy my new player. But since my resolution is 1024x768 I posted this question to see if there is a visible difference.

It's a 1080i/720p capable, so probably a LESSER resolution than your set..... There is a larger difference in 480p DVD (via HDMI/Component whatever) and 720p/1080i blu-ray than there is between 720p and 1080p

You WILL notice a large difference.
