Wasn't expecting to see Losin It. Kino always seem to get the really forgotten films that I'd buy.

I've seen it in HD. You should try and track it down. It's either on a cable channel or one of the streaming services. I thought it was abysmal and I love the genre. I'd really love to see Bikini Carwash Company or something that's in my unwatched VHS pile like Hollywood Hot Tubs, Grad Night, Dream Trap, or Party Camp.

Same question. Last I noticed MGM was streaming the European version so maybe it will be that one?

I ordered 3 Blu-rays direct from Kino 8 days ago. Haven't had a shipping update so decided to check my account and the order disappeared. They sent me an email initially saying the order was being processed so a transaction definitely took place. Too tired to shoot them an email now so I'll do it tomorrow but has anyone had this happen?

By any chance, did you happen to checkout as a guest (i.e. not sign in) when placing the order? Your email should include an order number for reference.

That one is definitely with MGM (CBS/Fox did put it out on video if that's what you're thinking). KLI mentioned a while back they weren't interested in picking that one up, but since Scorpion has a deal with MGM and are releasing other "boob tube" stuff in the same vein, I'd ask Walt.

Please consider Max and The Junkmen (1971) from Studio Canal, its a nice forgotten heist movie and has the star power (Romy Schneider, Michel Piccoli) to be a right little earner.

Happy new year!

Caught it on HD via Comcast on Demand a few times. Saw an HD rip on YouTube. Unfortunately for physical media all I have is a VHS rip DVD to keep me warm at night.

Thanks! I kept hearing conflicting info that it was owner by MGM or Fox. Sounds like I will be making a stop at the Scorpion thread for now.

Will keep my fingers crossed for a KLSC release of THE OSCAR, since my hopes seem to have been dashed for SONG OF NORWAY.

(I am serious - movies that are "so bad that they are good" are some of my favorites, and are easily the discs that get the most repeated viewings in my house)

I bought and watched The Black Windmill and it was solid but not amazing (as a film, the BD looked pretty good). Wondering if the other somewhat similar movies from Kino are better or worse, so I can prioritize getting them: The Destructors, The Wilby Conspiracy, Billion Dollar Brain, Holcroft Covenant.

I'd rank those four films in this order:

Billion Dollar Brain
The Wilby Conspiracy
The Destructors
The Holcroft Covenant

Billion Dollar Brain is the third film in the Harry Palmer trilogy, if you haven't done so already, I'd recommend checking out the first two before watching that one. Ipcress File is available on blu-ray from the UK; Funeral in Berlin is only available on DVD, probably only on MOD DVD-R at this point. Although the Palmer films were supposed to be Harry Saltzman's antithesis to Bond, Billion Dollar Brain sees the series leaning towards Bond a bit.

The Wilby Conspiracy is a South African political thriller. Think of, I don't know, Cry Freedom if it was an action movie and that sort of comes close to what it's like.

The Destructors is probably the film that I would say is closest in style and tone to the Black Windmill. It's been a while since I've seen it, mind you.

The Holcroft Covenant, despite being a Frankenheimer film based on a Ludlum novel is by and large a very disappointing film.

It's not a Kino film, but another Caine film from the same era of Black Windmill you might want to check out is Pulp, a very quirky comedy-thriller from Arrow Video.

These are some of my higher want list items as well almost exclusively due to nostalgia. As much flack as Pauly Shore gets these days the dvds for his starring roles in the 90s are still often found on the racks in stores like WM so there's definitely some unheralded lingering popularity. And I finally saw the international cut of 3 Ninjas over 20+ years later; a blu of it with both the international and US cuts would be a dream release. Houseguest has some really hilarious Sinbad lines and another that I'd love. Really, all of those I'd take on blu and a few of them are already available internationally.

I got Kino’s first Outer Limits set for Christmas, and they did a spectacular job with it. It’s one of the very best catalog-on-BD sets I’ve seen. I hope they get more TV shows. I’d love to see them get Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

So my order from the October sale is shipping(it was waiting on Foxfire) and I should be able to watch some of these at the beginning of the next year:
  • Topkapi (Blu-ray)
  • The Woman in the Window (Blu-ray)
  • No Highway in the Sky
  • Taking of Pelham One Two Three

Plus Billion Dollar Brain is interesting as an early Ken Russell directorial effort.

I have Ipcress. Not my favorite thing ever but solid. Never saw the "sequels," was waiting for Funeral in Berlin to get a BD which doesn't seem to be happening. I like the idea of the third one being a little more Bond-y, so maybe I'll skip right to it.

It seems to have more of the natural Michael Caine charm and wit to it at least, judging by the trailers. It looked the most appealing to me trailer-wise, honestly, but who knows how that would work out for the full film.

Good to know. I love the 80's though and all three players there, so will likely get it eventually anyway. Will put it off though.

I was very torn on how interesting that looked when it came out. I think I ended up passing because it seemed like more of a British Comedy than a crime/spy story IIRC. Maybe I was wrong though. Would have to get it second-hand for the booklet at this point I bet, which would be annoying.

It is but he does a fairly conventional job on that one without any of the usual wild and eccentric flourishes he’s known for.

I asked MisterLime about the 2000 Western The Claim and he replied that someone else had licensed it. Well, that was close to 2 years ago and we still don't have it. I hope whoever is sitting on this loses the license so someone else can step in and get the ball rolling. It needs to be released already.
