Is GATTACA OOP? Seems like the price shot up, and I can’t find it directly from Amazon, Walmart, et al.

just wondering if because of the pressing plant consolidation perhaps we need to only include titles that have been confirmed to be OOP. it may well be that some titles aren't available for the simple reason that they are further down the list due to delays on newer titles. i'd imagine a repress isn't a priority in most cases.

Yeah, it sold out during the BF sale. It's now listed in the OOP section on Powerhouse's website.

I disagree with this very strongly, for two primary reasons:
1 - very few titles are ever officially announced as OOP. Technically, as soon as the pressing is complete, the title is "out of print", because it's not being printed. And companies rarely advertise when they sell out of product. If we wait for official announcements, we might as well abandon the thread entirely.
2 - The rumors and questions about what might be sold out are interesting and important. Alfred Hitchcock's "Jamaica Inn" is still officially "going to be reprinted", but people have been waiting two years for that. If I hadn't bought the disc when it was first clear that there were stock issues (because of this thread, or at least a similar one), I'd be looking at the crazy secondary market prices now.

I do think it's important to distinguish the source of information and whether it's a fact or a rumor, but I don't think we should stop trying to spot things that have quietly gone out of print. "This is starting to look like it might be out of print" is way more valuable to buyers and collectors than "This movie is now officially 100% unavailable anywhere except ebay".

The Long Kiss Goodnight appears to be OOP. It's sold out at wbshop.com and not available at any major retailers. It's still available in the triple feature sets.

never said to say nothing just that being a little more cautious about declaring something to be "out of print" may be the wise route to take. i understand that except for a few boutique labels that many titles are never said to be out of print in any official capacity. just saying it may be easier at this juncture to jump the gun and be wrong.

hah, I actually love the other two
anyway, are these versions any different from the alternate single release for 7th and the TT versions for the other two?

maybe they will all come back, even the nearly sold out 2,3 on Amazon are listed as only a few left but more stock coming
so far only Best Buy seems to promise 4 is coming back though
BB is still claiming they are getting this back in stock, now they say between Jan 28 and Feb 11th

I saw a couple copies at Best Buy just before black Friday, and while they are gone now (always makes me wonder if someone read it here), the tag is still up and has been for a couple of weeks. Those tags usually come down when something sells out and isn't coming back. The Friday the 13th collection (tin) tag was only up for a few days when those re-surfaced 2 Halloweens ago but they only got one copy in, that didn't even make it to the rack (I know as I found it in a box not put up yet, and bought it).

This is a tricky time to determine if something is really OOP as almost every studio faces delays in getting more catalog stock made. Tread carefully.

That's pretty bizarre. I don't recall it being a 'limited edition.'

I do, however, recall "rights expiration" being a thing.

It only came out in Jan 2017, so they only had the rights for that short a time?

I speculated in the official thread here but I imagine the sale of the corman library has had something to do with things. Perhaps Shout Factory didn't acquire these titles, or perhaps they did but have a different release planned. It's also possible that it just isn't a money maker and the new bosses at Shout have decided that this release needed the axe. Whatever the case may be... I'll be a bit surprised if they aren't re-released somewhere in the next few years by someone.

That's 2 years, not unheard of. If the option was 2 years or nothing, I could see Shout making that deal.
