Agreed, the future is OLED and their spinoffs.

We will know more detailed information on Thursday.

"In a statement, Pioneer said the news reports were not based on official information from the company. It said details on restructuring measures would be unveiled Thursday when it releases earnings."

It might be 2 or 3 years before we see a flat panel display that matches or beats the picture quality of existing 9G Pioneer Plasma's. Possible in a few years future LED LCD technology with 240HZ refresh rate (10:10 pulldown) will match or beat the Pioneer as long as viewing angle problems can be solved with LCD'S.

The gentalmen that invented OLED did so in the 70's & it's been R&D since, it's just been way to costly. There getting the price's down some sure , but there not going to have sub $2,000 50" OLED sets in quite a number of years. What good would a $5,000-7,000 or more 50" OLED do in this economy, not much, just like Pioneer Kuro.

No, the uniformity of picture will still be the #1 issue with the LED picture quality, as it is today.

Rich
They're already using Kuro technology in the new Z-Series coming this Summer in a 54" size only. I have no doubt they will continue to utilize Pioneer's developments as well as their own - they've been partners in the PDP coalition for years and years.

They have made some products that use OLED screen like picture frames that new sony phone & some other small screened products. 30+yrs of R&D & that's where there at...since the best HDTV's are now on there way out, OLED better step it up which they won't be able to even in the next 5+yrs easy, but hopefully they do. Panasonic has the ball in there court. Next week should be intresting as far as annoucements go. We will just have to wait & see what happens???

Also pioneers new BD players were/are gunna be sweet. Kuro like sounds frickin sweet , 13 picture setting or the player will auto calibrate the picture when used with the 9G!!! Oh my dreams have been crushed.
Are you serious!? thats crazy.

Oh by the way that or in my sig is going to change to an "and" i think. there's not going to be another tv like this for a long time.

I'm buying a Kuro this week, right now I'm trying to decide between the 5020FD for 2300 dollars or the PRO-111FD for 3000 dollars.

That's a possibilty, If I can find a deal in my area. I know I've seen it online for 3600 dollars but I don't want to wait to get it (childish I know but hey I need instant gratification for some things LOL.) Unfortunately it's still running 5500 dollars around here.

Yeah it's a rumor still, but down here in Macon we have a High-End home theater store that's running a sale on the PRO-111FD and Best Buy has been running an unadvertised sale on the 5020FD for a few weeks. That's why i'm trying to decide between the two.

Do you think in the coming months, or when pioneer runs out of pannels, stores will have have big sales on them?

Xtop over at AVS they seem pretty sure its true.

Oh yeah definately, but what I think will happen if this all does end up being true, is once the price drops on the elite 60" or the 6020FD you better be ready to jump on one because they are gonna go quick. The reason for that is that most stores that carries them usually don't have many in stock because they are so expensive and they just don't want them just sitting around the store, and a lot of people want them but the price is a barrier, once that barrier is gone the Kuros will disapper.
