You need to wait.

It confused me the first time I did the install data step too, mostly because there is no download status bar for several minutes. I think it takes between 3 and 5 minutes for the game data to actually begin downloading once you've started. So, next time, hit install then walk away for 5 minutes or so... do some laundry, take a crap, make a sandwich... something to pass the time. By the time you get back, the status bar should be there at least.

Umm... I disagree. Usually you eat the sandwich, then you take a crap, and if you miss then you have to do some laundry.
