Two releases in a row that I've never heard of. Can't say I'll jump on them at a $20-25 price point (CAD). Need to bring back the old school sales where I could get these for $10-15 and then I might check them out.

Ace In The Hole was a big favorite as was Letter To Three Wives, Spartacus, Lust For Life, The Fury, Vikings, Indian Fighter and dozens more.
Then there was the Dalton Trumbo/Spartacus bit that made him seem like one of the all time American good guys.

I first heard the NW story in a audiobook bio. It related the incident in graphic detail, but didn't name the actor, only that he was a big name and had a lot of clout at the time.
The audiobook was read by her sister Lana, so it stood to reason she fully endorsed the relating of the event.
Never heard of this, what was the incident?
Anyway, I don't mix personal life with art, what actors/directors do doesn't change the way I see a film or an actor's portrayal in it.

First of all - I already received the February titles early that I preordered now that Valentine came in today. (I received Willard and Return of the Vampire last week.)

Also - for the first time ever - the poster arrived in a properly sealed tube with plastic ends (instead of folding ends) and the poster was seperately rolled with a white wraparound paper to keep it from opening in the tube. No damaged ends.

Oh - and all the Hammer titles they keep announcing each month have also made me very very happy.
Yep. My VALENTINE arrived yesterday (along with my URBAN LEGEND from Amazon). It showed up in the usual long box, BUT...the poster was in the capped tube, and there were two sheets of fat-bubble wrap as well to keep the movie itself from bouncing around too much.

I can't praise the film enough. Everyone that worked on it should be proud that it turned out so well. It still gives me chills and I don't think I would want to watch it alone at night. It's amazing that a little TV movie with a likely minimal budget can be far more terrifying than a big budget studio theatrical film.

Two examples @ 19:11 and 25:53. And there are so many more. From beginning to end, as a matter of fact. That ending...

So I received (and watched) Valentine last night. The packaging was well done. I was also impressed with the quality of the film. It looks pristine. Of the post-Scream teen slashers, this one is very competent, maybe the best of them, and it has aged remarkably well. It has a distinct late 90s/early 00s feel, but it doesn't come across as dated in any way. The kills are nicely staged; great music, cast, and cinematography. This core group of ladies make an interesting team of friends, believable and sympathetic.

There's an Easter Egg if you go to the right of the theatrical trailer icon, where they're talking to Jack Sholder about Valentine's similarities to Alone in the Dark. I'm hoping this means they have Alone in the Dark, and had Sholder there for special features. Who knows?

Well if we were in doubt that Scream had a new deal with Fox, this confirms it - Alligator People coming 28th May:

A deal with Fox? I wonder how many titles they have picked up. Hopefully they can finally give us Death Sentence and Borat.

Man, it seems like Shout! has a deal with almost everyone. Warner, Sony, Universal, Fox, Studio Canal, MGM, and a few smaller companies. It's pretty nuts!

Looking forward to see what's coming next, but truly hoping for the Guyver films, Death Sentence, Borat, Q&A, and way too many others. Oh and Jason Goes to Hell. Actually surprised that hasn't hit yet.

The only Fox title I want is Turistas. And a remastered edition of Ravenous.

There are a ton of Fox films I would like to see on Blu-ray, but my top four would have to be Borat, Death Sentence, Q&A, and Bulworth. I'd take plenty of others though.

The trouble with Fox is this - according to Mister Lime, they themselves are responsible for their HD masters/restorations, and won't allow others to carry out the work. Ergo, if a title lacks a HD master, it's probably not going to be licenced, unless Fox agree to do it themselves (I don't think this is standard procedure). As such, I'm not hopeful about certain, more obscure titles seeing a Blu-ray release, particularly TV movies like The Norliss Tapes, Vampire and Haunted (unless someone knows otherwise).

Anyway, the possibilities for Scream. In terms of new stuff I can think of these, though not all of them may still be with Fox:

Dr Renault's Secret

The Unknown Terror
Back from the Dead

Hand of Death

Witchcraft (if they can resolve the issues which nixed the Kino release)
Curse of the Fly
Devils of Darkness
The Nanny

Hex (if it's still with Fox)
When Michael Calls (TV)
The Norliss Tapes (TV)
The House on Skull Mountain
Spectre
(TV)
Vampire (1979) (TV)

Savage Harvest (they tried before, doubt the music can be cleared)
The Vindicator
The Fly 2

Frankenstein Unbound
The Haunted
(TV)
Omen IV: The Awakening
Ghost in the Machine
Strange Days
(more a Shout Select title)
Quicksilver Highway

Club Dread
Incident at Loch Ness
Turistas
Joshua
Death Sentence

Then there's the stuff which had a previous Fox or Anchor Bay release, and could be given the CE treatment:

Big Trouble in Little China
The Fly
(1986)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)
Freaked
The X-Files: Fight the Future
From Hell
Joy Ride
28 Days Later
Wrong Turn
The Hills Have Eyes
(2006)
28 Weeks Later
The X-Files: I Want to Believe

Shout! has really gone and redeemed themselves with 2019. There were a ton of issues in the end of 2018, but man has 2019 been strong.

With the Street Fighter films and the Brain coming, I really can't praise them enough. Now, they have a Fox deal? So many potential titles.

I was under the impression that the major studios, generally, commission their own HD masters which they then license to third parties. There are instances where they allow an indy label (Criterion, for example) to tinker a bit with the scan but that it wasn't a common occurrence.

Does one obscure 50's film really indicate a larger deal with Fox ?

Normally Shout! has done package deals in the past, so I would assume they did something again. Sure, it's possible that they didn't, but if the past is any indication, I would safe it's a safe bet that they did some sort of package deal.

Between this and Warning Sign, I think it's safe to say they've concluded a recent deal with Fox, which is very interesting given the Disney takeover.

If I was a betting man, I'd say lump the house on a Collector's Edition of The Fly II being announced in the near future, if they didn't get it in this deal I'll eat my hat. I just hope we'll have a CE of Cronenberg's The Fly (from a new restoration) to go with it at some point.
