You're not losing any data, are you? In the other cases I've heard, nothing is lost (game save data, videos, music, etc) but you do lose the tags/folders that you may have used to sort things (assuming you have nicely organized media on your HDD).

So I say don't worry about it.
nope i didntlose athing and my stuffis all organised and its all the same

If it didn't fail then I'd continue to act like nothing happened. Keep in mind that the hard drive in your PS3 is made by Seagate and they make excellent hard drives.

Though its never a bad idea to upgrade your hard drive. If you want some suggestions, just ask as everyone will be willing to help.
thanks for your help. when u say upgrade do u mean like get a new one? is it easy to switch them out?

Are they easy to switch out?! Oh boy, you are in luck!

You basically remove 1 screw, pull out the hard drive and slide the new one in!

EDIT: Heres a link to a whole thread dedicated to replacing your hard drive.

You are fine. It is like defragging your hard drive. My 60GB has done it as well. The only annoying thing is it reset the download dates on all my videos! Now my sort by date is useless.

As for a new HDD I opted for the WD Scorpio Black 320GB 7200RPM SATA3.0 with 16MB cache. $89.99

Well my answer would depend on what you currently have. If you already have a 16GB USB flash drive, then I would recommend deleting your PSN Games and the PS3 Game Data, which should free up the majority of your space. Keep in mind you can always reinstall your PS3 Disc games as well as redownload your PSN games. I didn't say delete the Saved Games, but the files in the Game Data folder.

Now would you get all of your music and pictures? Not with the backup option, but if you manually copy over them to the flash drive yes.

A more long term solution would be purchasing an external hard drive and formatting it to FAT32 and using it for backups. I currently have a Seagate FreeAgent Go 500 GB Portable External Hard Drive $123 that I use on a weekly basis to backup my system with.

If the reading of the link Mike provided seems to be too much to follow, I would suggest watching the video link that was provided near the bottom of the first thread in that link. It will help everything make more sense. It is really easy to change it.

Well, now someone from Wall St needs to sell Mathew21 an insurance to cover Marine Mike's recommendations. After all he was staying in Holiday Inn, not Embassy Suites...

Default A question for Marine Mike

Hi There,

I hope this is a good thread for this, but the strangest thing happened to me last night with my PS3 as a blu ray player. Out of no where, without changing any settings and having played many blu rays, when I went to insert a blu ray, it didn't recognize the disk. Going into the xmb, it didn't show that there was a disk inserted. I troubleshot using a standard DVD, which it saw with no issue. I reinserted the blu ray (actually two different ones), it did not see them. As a last resort, I flipped the main breaker in the back, and upon rebooting, I inserted the same blu ray, and voila, it saw it and loaded it.

Any idea on what might cause the new PS 3 to simply not recognize a blu ray, then upon power cycle, see it fine?

No hurry to answer this, or if you are busy don't, but I saw someone else asking you a question and thought this was a good one since it kind of freaked me out given that the PS 3 is only a few weeks old and has been performing perfectly.

Thanks,
KCcarl
