Samsung shot themselves in the foot to begin with when they've said they're not supporting Dolby Vision but instead support a HDR format that will likely be a failure in a couple of years from now. I'm not surprised by a bit Samsung is giving up on 4K Blu-ray players.

I thought the point of the Samsung 8K TV is that it upscales 4K and most content to 8K. I don't think I will be buying any Samsung video and audio products though with this news. I will wait for Sony and LG to do one. |

For me, only if the option for 3D with glasses exists. So far, glasses-free can't recreate the screen extensions that 3D is known for. Or the immersion. Just depth and better viewing angles. At least as far as the 2 demos I've seen are concerned.

I never rated the first Samsung 4k player anyway. Plus I have an issue than I can’t fix on my Samsung 4k tv. One of the hdmi sockets is defunk and doesn’t work. Samsung won’t fix it. Plus whatever they told me to do over the phone didn’t bloody work.
When the whole thing gives up the ghost (hopefully not for a good while) I’m not buying another Samsung tv again. I’m done with Samsung. I’ll look to Sony or Panasonic. |

The technology is simply more advanced than the people ready for it. If Samsung just quit on 4K BR players it must mean they don't make money with them because they don't support Dolby Vision and most likely never will. If you don't support what the market wants you to support might as well go the way of the dodo. It's the same with 4K versus 3D. |
