I just don’t see what you see and I have a large library of iTunes 4K. Obviously the streams are not as good as the best of UHD, but it’s getting ridiculously close. And I can right now enjoy movies in Dolby Vision 4K such as The Silence of the Lambs and It’s a Wonderful Life. I honestly haven’t had this much fun with home video since Laserdisc.

A real man would buy several of the best UHD players and do his own testing.

I wish Vudu gave you a menu option for movies like iTunes does, it makes it feel like you just put a disc in.
iTunes is fantastic.

I guess that leaves you out then as you have only tried two, three at most, yourself. I only need to buy one more player to be as "manly" as you; what a dubious distinction that would be!

Only a fool would spend more than he needs to on multiple 4K disc players in the search for a really good one. There is a reason why review websites and user forums exist. They enable smart people to avoid the mistakes made by the ill informed such as yourself.

Buying stuff that paid reviewers are telling you to buy. Yup, very smart. Carry on.

We agree on something! You did not use your trademark rolling eyes emoji so clearly you are being sincere.

Most people are paid for the work that they do. Further, when NONE of several review websites endorse a player in their top picks, that's hardly a coincidence. Combine that with actual negative owner comments in forums like these and others, a pretty clear picture emerges. Add in your history of, let's just say, "minority" held opinions and it is pretty much a safe bet betting against anything that you recommend.

You may be certain that I will carry on; you will always have that much to look forward to.

Sadly I own an ATV4K (bought it for the iTunes 4K/HDR exclusives) and while some movies look nice, there's still something missing. Also the audio straight up sucks. I hardly use the damn thing anyway. It's just sitting their in the box it came in, literally dumped somewhere in a corner of the bedroom gathering dust. I only take it out and hook it up when I want to watch something. After that, it goes back in the box and in the corner.

Streaming will never be able to equal disc based media. Then there's indeed the ownership/content alteration factors. Physical will get you something which you can actually hold in your hands and put on the shelf, which emphazises the fact you actually own your own shit even more.

After the Samsung news, I think I'll be buying the new upcoming Sony X800 player just to show my support (again).

Streaming is the devil, I absolutely despise the Netflix culture and consoles should be used for gaming and not as a primary device for watching movies.

Rumor has it that Samsung quit manufacturing UHD players, is that true?

Anybody want to fight/argue?

Are you expecting technology to stop advancing tomorrow for some reason? Streaming will not only be as good as UHD discs in the very near future, it will be hundreds of times better in no time at all, with practically zero limits.

Enough manure in that last sentence to fertilize the entire nation. Why settle for when you can be full tilt bat sheet

Except you know, times when the internet goes out or you live just one block off of good internet or you just don’t have a good connection because someone is downloading a game in the other room or a million different other things that are an issue in our ever increasing capped internet.

I've read that sentence three times, love it!

With streaming, technology is not advancing, it's going backwards.

'The Great Escape' (MGM) is not on UHD (Blu), and if ever it gets the UHD treatment, just buy a Magnavox UHD player.

No fight, no argument, no smiley.

And where did you get that rumor from, Seoul?

It really depends on the movie, some looked great (Goldeneye) and some looked like a total shitshow (Heat). I did a lot of googling and even big iTunes fans admitted there's some rough compression out there depending on the title, so I don't know what to tell ya.

Maybe not having a particularly sensitive eye to compression is why you insist your magic Xbox solves the compression problem on certain discs.

Lol

Obviously one of my favorite movies.

But back to the topic.

I think it's unfortunate when any big company stops manufacturing anything.

Panny 820 solved some of Geoff's compression issues. And the 820 is like an Atari compared to X's processing power. Don't knock it until you've seriously tested it.
