People freaked when Oppo left too, but it's more about company priorities. In that case it was phones, in this case it's phones, 8k and streaming. Other brands are much more focused on players. It really just depends and anyone hopping on this as proof of anything are the normal doom-saying profits like Bates and Clark Kent out to prove their predictions. |

I don't see the point in buying a Samsung TV with this news based on my viewing habits. It's obvious they have no faith in discs anymore so I wonder if it will play into any future firmware updates for their TV's. Since I play discs and stream it still matters to me having the best possible display for my viewing experience. Their TV's are ok but I just wouldn't feel comfortable with the brand anymore. Sony and LG still care, I'll buy a TV from them with confidence!
People will still buy Samsung TV's and if you stream only it should be serviceable but the brand for me now is tarnished with this news. |

We knew this literally a year ago, when Sammy said they weren't releasing any 2018 BluRay players... said they were pulling out. They didn't have the resources to compete in the higher end players like the Panasonic or Pioneer and they had no interest in making $75.00 players.

Samsung exiting the Blu-ray players market means nothing, less than zero. They are giving other manufacturers a run for their money...Apple, Huawei, LG, Sony, Vizio, iPad, Amazon, Google, Trump, ... |

Though after my model year Samsung TVs seem to have taken a dive on HDR quality, so it's probably best for enthusiasts to buy something else anyway. Samsung TVs do sell like hotcakes though, because of good marketing and brand recognition. |

A bunch of those ones are still around, and even if they support DV, so what. We don't need Dolby Vision, we have HDR, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, 8K, Samsung tablets, Samsung phones, 5G, OLED, QLED, FALD LCD LED, MicroLED, Quantum, 3D, A.I., ... Last edited by LordoftheRings; 02-17-2019 at 07:37 PM. |

On the flip side Samsung exiting the disc player market is good news for Sony, LG, Panasonic and Pioneer to name a few. More players will be sold by them with less competition.

If they don't care about disc players anymore I'll go with a brand that still does like Sony and LG. I do have DV capable UHD player so I am good with that. The X800 and X1000ES are still great 4K UHD players that have no DV support. |

Looks like Samsung has finally decided to take it's ball and go home. Couldn't get others to dump DV and go for their push of 10+, so they left angry...
![]() This will be unpopular... Anyone with a Samsung set that loves physical media... Do not purchase another Samsung set.. Makes sense to bite the hand that does not want to feed, period.. Glad I never bought one.. |
