I believe Leon Vitali has said the girls weren't supposed to be twins, but when he found the twins, they were perfect for it and Kubrick agreed. I noticed Ullman's line the last time I watched it but figure they must've shot the office scene first before finding the girls and just didn't care.

Yeah that’s what I said also. He did film the movie in order so it’s very possible. Thank god he picked twins. It wouldn’t have been as good with just two sisters that hardly look alike. It was probably one of those things when he did see the twins he was like “shit they should be twins not just sisters” and realized that was the better way to go.

If I'm understanding you correctly, if they are not Grady's daughters, then who are they? Because the two slain girls are wearing the same blue dresses as the two girls who walk in to the room during one of Danny's visions, both of whom are presumably Grady's daughters.

Picked up a UK mag about 80's movies for airplane reading and it has a lot of Shining stuff along with Back to the Future and the rest. It felt so odd to me because The Shining is such a 70's movie in my head.

Yeah I always think 70’s when I think Shining.

Well it was made in the 70’s so that makes sense.

But released in 1980, so it's technically an 80s movie.

Remember... a zero is a placeholder. The 21st Century didn't start until 2001 officially.

I know but it was made in the 70’s thus why it feels like a 70’s horror film.

True, but just because 1971 is the start of the 1,970th decade doesn’t mean the decade called “the 70s” is from 1971-1980.

What does it matter ? Decades don't snap into place on NYE and then recognisably have the characteristics of that decade. Fashions and styles of the early 70s look far more different from the late 70s, than the difference between the late 70s and the early 80s.

Nothing better than seeing a "This needs a 4K UHD release" or a "I wish they would release this on UHD" bump post in a thread of one of your favorite movies. Those are definitely my favorite types of posts on this forum. And very informative indeed.
