Don't you find when you watch standard dvds you find yourself being over critical of PQ & SQ? It would be nice to replace my standard dvd collection of over 500 dvds but thats quite unlikely. I'm a horror film fanatic & most of my dvd collection will never see the light of day on BD, the chances of seeing Fulcis Zombi 2 on BD? And before anyone points out, yes you can upscale but its a long way from BD quality.

Isn't the whole point to eventually replace DVD as THE format. At that point, they will do just like DVD and release damn near everything possible. It will just take a long time for most stuff, like old international horror films.

It's true that you get spoiled quickly.
The plan is that I will not replace my DVDs with Blu-rays except in special cases, like my Schindler's List that we accidentally got in full-screen version. And if the original Star Wars trilogy comes out in the original versions with no damned extra footage. I hope I can live up to this goal, or else I may have to put off retirement by 5-10 years. ![]() |

That's why i love High Def. Watching movies on DVD has been like eating TV dinners and soda instead of a real steak and trimmings with wine ![]() |

All of your B horror flicks will see the light of BD eventually. Just like they did from VHS to DVD. It may be 5 years from now.. or longer. That genre has a decent fan base and a fan base that collects at that. Assuming the master copy of these movies is not the compressed video on the DVD it will look better on BD. Watching a DVD on a big 1080p tv and especially a LCD tv can look quite pixilated and that aspect would not be as noticiable on a BD version.

I agree with you that replacing 500 dvds for BD or HD-DVDs would be crazy, but buying a decent BD player with 1080p upscaling would not. On my 61" tv non upscaled dvds look bad. I only replace dvds that I think would be bad ass in full HD and not upscaled. I say just buy new movies on BD and maybe a select few dvds can be replaced with hd. Just be carefull, alot of the older movies were not done justice when put onto either format. The replacement of dvds shouldn't start for a while if that is what you want to do. Old dvds good, but BD for new!!!!!

I wish I could could be as optimistic as those guys, in the fact that all DVD will eventually be put on blu-ray. The fact of the matter is some really great movies haven't even made it to DVD yet. Case and point: Galaxy Express 999, I have waited for this since DVD was introduced. The VHS copy runs $150+, check Amazon.com. I wish I never would of returned my rental copy!
As for B-Movies, some like Sam Raimi's Within the Woods have not hit DVD. |

Its a gamble on what will come and what will not. I have made and will make several gables.
Mostly are HBO shows. OZ Six Feet Under Sex and the City I don't beleive will be coming to Blu-Ray. I have all of OZ purchased. I will keep them no matter what. I have plans on purchasing SFU and SATC. Now if HBO would give me a time line of what might be coming or won't, it would be of great help! However, I don't hold my breath. |
