I disagree. I think it would absolutely have an effect on sales.

I've seen the movie yesterday for the first time. After that, the deleted scenes. Most of the times I can see why some scenes were cut, but in the cas of IT it was always the other way around. 90% of them felt really essential to the story as a whole and the motivation of the characters. In fact, the movie would have benefited from those moments being there. If these are the scenes that will make the directors' cut, that version will be superior.

Yep, I'm sure the current release sold just fine. I went to 2 different Best Buys stores with a friend who wanted a copy, both were sold out. Went to a Target & only 2 were left (1 after he bought a copy).

I actually won my copy through a context. It's my first 4K disc, but I don't own a 4K player. *facepalm* Lucky the regular BR was included.

Good for you. 4K releases usually include a Blu-ray copy.

So, I just finished listening to the audiobook...

Wow! They really glossed over some things in this R-rated film.

I already wasn't a big fan of the film, but this makes me want to revaluate my rating even further.

If they followed the book, this film would have a NC-17 rating.

I read the book before watching the movie. The book is engrossing at times, but was also written during a period of heavy substance abuse in Steven King's life. Some ideas are brought up and then forgotten, and the ending doesn't make a lot of sense to me : I know what happened, but not how.

Ideally, after part 2 has made its millions, the two movies could be re-edited to follow the novel's back-and-forth timeline (but that may be asking too much).

A lot of King’s endings fall flat. Never has an author had so many great 3/4’s of books.

I agree about the NC-17 rating.

And, yes, it's rather apparent that this novel was written during a dark time in King's life.

I was mostly referring to the rampant racism and homophobia presented in the novel, not the underage orgy (which is what everyone talks about). The writers try to sidestep much of this by setting the film 30 years later. But, I wonder how it would have affected the final product.

Do you mean the final battle? Or the events following it? Both can be hard to understand.

I'm curious to see how they are presented in this next film.

I'll go see It: Chapter Two, regardless.

And, yes, I think a re-edit is asking too much.

I think the 1990 TV movie did a pretty good job at the back and forth. Although, most universally agree that the adult segments were a step down from the kid segments.

The child actors filmed additional scenes for IT: Chapter Two, so presumably it will have some back and forth storytelling as well.

The racism is definitely in the first film but it's not as extreme as the book. The homophobia though, definitely agreed they left that out. WB probably would rather not address it versus tackling the issues head on and being accused of handling it badly.

It's more of a gangbang than an orgy.

I like this movie alright as a decent timewaster, same for the kid part of the mini-series and kid part novel and the performances by the kids were nice and Bill was fine as Pennywise as much as Curry was to the character. I've seen monsters vs kids done better in Monster Squad, The Gate and some others.

But to be honest, i like the adult part of the book/mini-series is much better than the kid one in the miniseries/2017 adaptation/novel as the adults going on an adventure feels much better in my opinion and that's why i think part 2 will surpass this one.

3 stars for me.

This is a good movie and the jumpscares work, especially with the kind of soundscape reference volume provides. Still, it's pretty much just jumpscares wrapped up in a compelling story, and the tension is nearly gone by the two hour mark. There's nearly no psychological element to Pennywise to creep you out persistently and I hope that changes in Chapter 2, with Pennywise preying on their children and feeding off of their parent's anxiety. Haven't seen the original.

He’s kind of like JJ Abrams in that JJ can’t nail an ending to any of his movies. His third act always falls apart

This might see like an odd aside on the film, but I got to say there was a shot after the rock fight where in the background a freight train was passing. I'm an Aussie and I've never seen this before, but a lot of the trailers were double stacked, and even more nerve wracking was the longer container was on top. I mean WTF. Is this normal in the US or just something they did in the movie as a subconscious background thing done to throw you out? Like something isn't right.

I googled it and apparently they do it when the rail car isn't long enough to hold the longer container, so they put a shorter container on the bottom and attach the longer one to the top of it. I don't think they would do that just for the movie but I also haven't personally seen it before, either.
