If ever there was a show that demanded to be seen on a 50"+ screen on Blu-ray in surround sound it is Game of Thrones. Anybody who watches it on anything less is missing out.

She couldn't care less, so she's not really missing out on anything.

This truly is a tragedy, I'd tell my wife not to bother lol

Try as a might I just can't get excited about the last season like I usually am around premiere time.
[Show spoiler]Jon Snow/Tyrion's "plan" to pokemon the white walker and appease the psychopathic queen still is the dumbest shite ever, especially considering Tyrion would have the insight to know that plan wouldn't work. The show is glorious fan fiction at this point but maybe the final season will blow all of our minds and Jon Snow and Dany will finally have some on screen chemistry.

I stopped getting excited about how the show would end about 5 years ago when I realized that the books would never be finished.

Never said it wasn't. But I think old R.R. totally lost his grip on the series and never really knew how to end it. The showrunners will do their best, I'm sure, but I don't think there's any way it reaches a satisfying conclusion.

I think the intense reaction soured him more than anything. I think he just got tired of all of it, and just let the show finish it. I’m disappointed, because I prefer the books, and don’t like the storylines they changed. Especially how the tv show presented my favorite character, Littlefinger.

Agreed, even the cast sounded a bit weary about a year ago pretty much saying "there's no way to make everyone happy". I'll be fine with any conclusion that doesn't make it's audiences out to be idiots for the sake of plot conveniences. I'm not asking for a breaking bad quality final season.

It's a good thing that they're ending it. I'm not really sure how I feel about the series at this point in time. Been very excited about the final season premier but that's more of a cultural zeitgeist type of thing.

It's truly a shame that Martin hasn't had the ability to finish his books.

Yeah, I guess it's good that the story will get some form of closure, one way or another.

I'm not as big a fan of the show as most people because I feel like it loses the plot pretty often. It's the presentation that kicks ass more than anything else. I don't expect the ending to be any different.

Supposedly Martin told the showrunners the "very basic outline" of how he planned to end it years ago since he was worried he wouldn't finish the books. How true the show ending to that is though is anybody's guess. Martin said in EW he hasnt read any of the scripts/seen any of the last season and doesnt know how the show ends and will be surprised like the rest of us.

I just hope they can wrap everything up in a satisfying way and not just rush to get everything in

I gave up on this a few years back but i'll wait for an overall box set and consider revisiting it then, just for the action and fx etc.

The show is already very different than the books to the point where I just can't see them having the same ending at all. A lot of chracters that are alive in the books are dead on the show or they just simply do not exist. They had no problems chaniging plots, characters and arcs from the books so I don't see why they would feel obligated to remain true to what Martin had told them.

I also don't think the show and the books evoke the same emotions from the viewer/reader and that can shape the way people see/read things.

I think the big picture ending - ie, who ends up on the iron throne on the end and them defeating the night king - will be roughly the same (unless Martin changes his mind) but how they get there will be a lot different. A good example of what I mean is the sacking of Winterfell. It's a lot more complicated in the books on how it actually happens, but the end result is the same.

Personally I think this will happen..

[Show spoiler]
-Jamie goes against Cersei finally
-Cersei tries to betray Danerys and fails but not before doing a bunch of damage. Cersei dies.
-Theres a lot of tension in Winterfell about Jon bending the knee but Sansa eventually sides with him
-They stop the Night King and rebuild the wall. This involves Bran somehow.
-Danerys dies, but not before giving birth to a son. Jon rules in his place as reagent.

Well my theories are:
[Show spoiler]
1) in the books Cersei will be killed by Jaime, but I don't think it's going to be a "heroic act" at least I hope so because I think killing a woman and presenting it as heroic is gross, Jaime isn't on a redemption path in the books as well. I also think it happens sooner rather than later, I wouldn't be surprised if it happens in TWOW. The only reason Cersei is still alive on the show is because Lena Heady carries this show on her shoulders. Cersei will not live to see the War for the Dawn or the "Spring" afterwards. In the show, I think either Euron will betray her and kill her or Arya kills her because of fanservice, they romoved the Valonqar part from the show so I don't think they are staying faithful to it.

2) The fact that The Night King exists is a huge clue for the show's ending being different than the books. Basically I think the show is heading towards a one on one battle between Jon and the Night King while in the books I think the three prophesied dragonriders sacrifice themselves in order to save humanity.

3) I don't think that on the books there will be an Iron Throne by the end. In my opinion it's going to be destroyed by wildfire explosion. I believe this will happen in the show as well because they like to emphasize the Throne in their marketing for this season what with the "#ForTheThrone" instead of using "#ForTheDawn" or "#ForTheRealm" - They like to shock the viewers and nothing more shocking than promote "The Goal" and then destroy it.

[Show spoiler]My bet is that noone will end up on the throne, but that there will be some sort of council instead. One member from every major family.

Jon Snow will have to kill Daenerys at some point, after she gave birth to their baby. Maybe she gets turned, or something. Could be that Jon doesn't have to do it, but I'm sure Dany will die. No question about it.

Arya will probably kill Cersei with Jaime's face.

Bran turns out to be the Night King, we'll learn more of their motives (at this point they're just a bunch of cliche villains who head south for some reason).

And some other major deaths. I don't think both Stark sisters will be alive when the show ends. I do think both Jaime and Tyrion will survive.

Other than that? No idea. Last shot of the show? Sam reading the story to Gilly's kid. Cliche, but still.

We’ve already seen the Night Kings face before he was turned and he looks Nothing like Bran.

My theory: I think there will be a lot of deaths, some incest, a couple of dragon battles, a few gratuitous nude scenes, and someone new takes the throne.
