Watchmen Blu Ray - Directors Cut - 205 Minutes!

I've seen the theatrical cut -- in my line of work -- and I'm still astonished at what Snyder et al have managed to pull off. It equals the best genre adaptation of the decade (for me, it has been FOTR), and then surpasses it. Even in the theatrical cut, there's a wealth of detail and a richness of storytelling that I didn't hope for even two weeks ago. And most importantly, it makes for a highly satisfying moviegoing experience even if you haven't spent the last two decades wearing out copy after copy of the graphic novel (and finally decided to keep the Absolute edition spotless for future reference).

So as good as the film is -- and 95% of it is verbatim from the book, with the other 5% either condensed or visually expanded or cleverly reordered -- and as much as you don't feel that anything important is missing from it, of course there is tons of stuff you could see more of. I'll be the first in line to preorder this Blu-ray edition, or editions, and I think I'll just have to cave and get the Black Freighter/Under the Hood disc next month.

This is going to be the best picture of '09, genre or no genre.

BTW -- I can't really discuss the movie at any greater length right now. Hope you guys understand.
