I agree. The story is ripe for a re-imagining for the express purpose of adapting the book to be a stronger influence on the story. Totally unlike Spielberg's... So not a "remake" as that insinuates you're trying to capture the movie's legacy again.
The existence of another one won't diminish the impact or superiority of the original none for me. I'm just done with them making "new" stories to keep feeding us JP content. Give us the book version.

Eh... I mean, that is a good opening, but it's more effective for a novel than a film. I think Spielberg's opening was the better decision for a movie.
I'm not too keen on a film remake, as I don't think another 2-hour movie could really capture the Crichton novel that much better. Now, something like an HBO series (in the vein of Westworld), maybe closer adapting both the original novel and The Lost World (which was completely different to the movie) would be something I could get behind.
I would argue though those two movies' original films are not as well loved and highly regarded as Jurassic Park. Don't mistake me saying that they're not highly regarded. I just don't think they as highly regarded or well loved as Jurassic Park.
JP is certainly a bigger movie but I think Hollywood would still re-do it if they saw dollar signs, because the brand is so well known. That said the Jurassic World series kind of makes that a no-go anyway, since that's how the brand was revived. Maybe if the JW series stops and there's another 10 year gap or so I could see it happening then.

All jokes aside, my obsession has led me to trying my hand at a script for a show that is MUCH closer in tone to the novel / novel itself with a few new things (easter eggs for Site B so TLW isn't so out of left field, for example)

I rewatched JP1 and JW1 this past weekend. I still don't understand the criticism of JP1's PQ. Sure, maybe it could be better, but I think its fantastic. And JW1 is super-stunner, no doubt.

It's not really a bad transfer, and it's definitely a noticeable improvement from the Blu-Ray. But it still has some issues with DNR processing in certain scenes, and for some reason they skewed the color-timing back to the old transfer, even though they had a new 4K remaster that was timed closer to the original "warmer/earthy" colors when they made the 3D version.
So the criticisms are valid, but that's not to say it's anything that can keep you from watching and enjoying it.

To my eyes, the blu-ray was too cool and the 3D was too warm. The 4k seems to be nicely in the middle.
..would anyone here know whether the standard blu-ray versions of the first three movies included in the UK 4k trilogy edition are the same as the ones released in the past as am only interested in obtaining that trilogy as not much of a fan of 4th and 5th movie..thanks for any info..
Loaded up Jurassic Park 4K for the first time. And yeah I echo the general consensus around these parts: good, not great. It's a new transfer, there are some great-looking shots when the DNR is kept to a minimum, the colours are certainly stronger and it's texturally superior to the 2011 Blu-ray, but there's room for improvement. There's no reason why this can't receive the premium 5-star 4K treatment if Universal just stays away from the DNR (that shot of Dodgson arriving in the car is abysmal).
It's just funny that Universal have since become a reliable purveyor of 4K catalogue releases. If this 4K collection was released this year, the mastering team at Universal might have kept away from the DNR. Ho hum.
Be prepared to be pretty darn satisfied by JW after that, though; and then straight vindicated in all your patience... with Fallen Kingdom's PQ/HDR ('specially if you have DV)
Be prepared to be disappointed again when watching the third movie though.

I've already experienced Fallen Kingdom and it's one of the best 4K discs I've seen in terms of sheer crispness, clarity and textural precision. I was bowled over by it.
Haven't watched Jurassic World 4K yet, but I'm looking forward to it

Looking forward to digging into The Lost World.
The Dodgson shot I can understand because it's not random, it's an optical for the location overlay. It's them applying that same DNR philosophy to all the CG shots which really ticks me off. The rest of it has a strangely gritty look, I don't mean grain so much but the kind of crappy encoding that I've bemoaned on other releases like Apollo 13 and Blade Runner, it's not as bad as those but it's not far off and it looks so damned untidy.
The gut punch is when you put in Lost World and right from the opening scene even the opticals are treated 10x better than they were in JP1, never mind the actual 1st gen material which looks stunning. They've wrecked the black level with a harsh clip that causes some weirdness in near black tones but given how good the rest of it looks it's more of an irritant rather than a deal breaker.

Except I consider JP3 to be the best JP movie after the first, so yeah, the pq of the UHD really bothers me.
JW and Fallen Kingdom both look great but I wasn't expecting anything less. JW is a great movie while I think its sequel is horrible. No amount of eye candy will make it less difficult having to sit through that one...
