Exactly. I'm gay and I definitely support the cause, but you probably won't find me out waving a flag in a parade (not that I diss those who do that). I enjoyed Brokeback--it wasn't one of the 'all time best' films, but it did a good job of showing two masculine characters experiencing something deemed immoral by society. Heath's character especially underwent some serious self-loathing that a lot of gay people go through.

This isn't a movie, but I loved the lesbian relationship in Buffy the Vampire Slayer between Willow and Tara because the relationship lasted several years and was treated like every other heterosexual relationship on the show. In fact, Willow/Tara is one of the most romantic couples in the history of television. Sure, Will and Grace may have helped the cause some, but a lot of it was still very stereotypical.

I don't mind the 'gay and proud' people, but being gay is a part of who I am... it isn't my defining characteristic which is what a lot of gay people seem to act like. Shoving something down someone's throat distastefully isn't going to cause them to accept you more.
