They look fantastic.
But then the audio is completely wrong - moreso than any magenta push.

Hate to be the one going off 30 year old memory, but I don't remember 'Returns' looking so teal in theaters originally. I haven't seen the film since but I recall it looking natural.

I'm assuming you mean the audio on the 4k, yes its a big problem, but I can devise a way of playing the old 5.1 audio with the new 4k transfer without a big hassle.

The new 4k picture looks as accurate as we've ever had. That's why I'm buying it.

they look phenomenal to me. screencaps that is. a few of the returns images look soft. The other 3 look to be stunners, especially the 2 most hate

Give me the Scumacher classics over the dark knight trilogy any day. Audiences like that aren't cute when you're sober.

Coming back to this thread after a few days.

So... the 5.1 DD on the '89 film is not the original audio or the previous 5.1? It's a fold-down of the Atmos with all the new sound effects?!

Is this the case with the sequels?

I wonder if this was a mistake by whoever was compiling the assets for the discs.

It's nice to see Warner maintaining the original 1.85 AR.

Again, it's not always about saving a buck or two. I recently went to Sea Side and spent some money at a local record shop. The 3 cd's I purchased I could've gotten cheaper on Amazon. But the point was not about saving money. It was about supporting a local record shop so that they don't go extinct. I know it's not the same reason or situation, but it can be applied in this case with 4K's to some extent.

What? The cost to upgrade to 4K is no more than $500 for a modest setup if you just want to get your feet wet. I can afford that and I have more debt than the U.S. Government. Seriously Clark, if you can't afford $500 something is wrong. Not to mention you are in a 4K UHD thread. Wrong thread to be if you're not interested in 4K.

Come on, that is the only way to enjoy Batman & Robin. It's like going to a midnight show of The Room or Plan 9 From Outer Space.

This!

It never fails. The less regarded some films are, the better off when they finally get a BLU or 4K release.

Whoever at WB decided it was best to recreate / alter sound effects for Batman, well you can only imagine what I hope for them.

I understand the original audio may mot have been the most aggressive, but when you watch a film so many times growing up its like a song. You know it by heart. Alterations can be jarring and pull you out of the film experience.

I can’t wait to see how WB and Friedkin piss everyone off with The Exorcist

Proud of myself that I caught the "Matrix-ing" during my theatrical viewing:

Quote:
Overall, I'd say this transfer was similar to Warner's recent Matrix do-over in spots
And I know it's not iron-clad, but I did catch a 35mm showing of "Returns" in December last year and it looked more blue than teal/cyan. That being said, I dig the look of all 4 of those remasters and can't wait to own them.

Random observation: I love how pouty Batman looks in this shot lol:

Are Burton and the original mixer / sound designer involved in this new mix?

Heh, this is why I don't mind when Atmos remixes aren't devised for remasters. Some sound effects will inevitably be changed so they don't sound so tinny or like low quality stock sound effects. And then those who wanted Atmos in the first place wind up reverting back to the original mix.

Just ironic that two rhetorics are so often repeated around these parts.
1. No Atmos = no sale.
2. Atmos with changed sound effects = no sale.

Not having a go or taking the smeg. Just an observation.

The 4K steelbooks are the best part of this release. I am in awe of them.

^ The box art with the big Batman logo is the nicest part of it.
