In the playoffs he was consistently great - 3x World Series champ, ALCS and World Series MVP. He hit .455 in three World Series. The only knocks are PED use and that he was mainly a DH. These days neither is as black a mark as it used to be. Edgar Martinez (while great) didn't have a career anywhere close to that of Ortiz and he made it, even if after 10 years of waiting. Seems like the consensus was Ortiz would probably fall a little short first ballot, making it in year 2 or 3 of eligibility before this. I think it's likely he makes it first ballot now, as he should have all along. |

We'll see. It's been almost 10 years for those guys and if they don't make it in, I'd find it hard to see them letting Ortiz in. However he is more likeable than Bonds or Clemens.
And that article isn't that accurate. Mariano did get 100% of the vote and Mussina did get in this year. |

Interesting story about 2009 College World Series MVP Jared Mitchell, the guy drafted before Mike Trout who is now playing independent ball. Technically Randal Grichuk was drafted before Trout, but the Angels had back-to-back picks, so Mitchell becomes the answer to the trivia question.

Not sure what to make of this. How viable is this plan?
The Tampa Bay Rays have received permission from the MLB executive council to explore becoming a two-team city -- start the season in Tampa, finish the season in Montreal. But they want new stadiums for both cities. Team name and playoff hosting to be determined. |

They could just build a new stadium in TAMPA
![]() Assuming Vegas goes on as continued with the expansion team, the league would need 1 more for an even 32. Nashville, Charlotte, Columbus would be three great cities. If Montreal wants to try again, maybe explore the idea. I doubt Columbus would be taken serious as its in the middle of Cincinnati and Cleveland, despite it's continued population growth. |
