I am going to eventually upgrade my receiver. I was considering the denon 3808, yamaha3800 and the onkyo 875/906, but after reading some threads I'm considering this for example: Yamaha 663 with emo, outlaw,or rotel amp.
I do have a couple questions though. First how is the upconversion on the Yamaha 663, I understand the Yamaha 3800 uses the anchor bay chip. Are they comparable? The Onkyo's Reon H?? upconversion technology is supposed to be a much better than all three. Is there a separate pre/pro that offers the Onkyos upconversion chip? Second, I would like to stream music from my laptop. This is another reason I chose the AVR's listed above. If I go with separates, will I be able to find a separate non amplifed prepro that would satisfy these requirements? With this in mind I understand the Yamaha 663 doesn't stream. anyone?
Is this not common among those who use separates? Are separates a musical thing an not used in combination with HT? Last edited by got rice; 02-26-2009 at 10:28 PM. |

This A/V proceesor seems to fit the bill(@ $1300.00 to $1500.00), for pre/pro and Emo UPA-7 for the amp. http://emotiva.com/umc1.shtm
I know its not out, but I was curious to know if the internals/build quality are better than lets say the Onkyo 875, or Denon 3808. From the specs, the Emo, has the same video processing as the Denon. Does anyone know about the DACS, bass management feature, and the speaker correction micro phone? Or would it be better to have an AVR mentioned as the pre/pro above to run 2channels and add a Emotive XPA-5? Is it true that AVR's are the Jack of all trades and Master of none? |

Streaming and upconversion are usually not priorities with people who get separates. If upconversion is important to you, go with the processor that has the Reon chip. That will make a significant visual difference over the other chips, including the Anchor Bay chip mentioned. I cannot help you on the streaming issue.

http://emotiva.com/umc1.shtm http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/997.html I recently found this out after posting this thread. Streaming on the other hand is not being implemented on the intro to midrange pre/pro's. |
