He replied to me saying they didn't have a 70s MGM film coming. But then again, if they were essentially 'upgrading' a title already under licence, I imagine they'd be able to do this without having to re-negotiate a deal for it, so it wouldn't be part of any such package anyway.

I don't know where these rumours of a new Kino release of The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes have come from, but you're not the first person to mention it. The prospect of it including missing footage is a very exciting one.

A high profile Film Historian who often collaborates with Kino intimated he was working on this release for them.

Kino Lorber Insider,

Please excuse if already asked and answered, but does StudioCanal have the US rights for Larry Peerce's Avco Embassy film The Sporting Club?

Malice, 52-Pick Up, Gator, White Lightning, Lost Highway, the Bedroom Window, Mad Dog and Glory, the Ice Harvest, Color of Night, Last Embrace, Cop, City of Industry, China Moon, Mulholland Falls, Shattered, Diggstown, 8 Million Ways to Die, and Still of the Night are some excellent Kino titles that feature noir and neo-noir elements.

I guess what I'm asking is, if Kino were to acquire it, would you settle for just the theatrical version, or want to include the Roadshow version in some capacity? At one point I mentioned perhaps constructing some kind of composite using the HD theatrical master and the best available source(s) for the Roadshow cut (SD inserts from the laserdisc?), but I've no idea how feasible that is (and I appreciate there will be a fairly drastic drop in quality during the Roadshow scenes).
We would be willing to take over the project with a couple of strings attached. Like I said earlier, we tried to acquire it, knowing what we were dealing with.

Also: Johnnie To’s “Election” and “Triad Election” are listed, respectively, on Kanopy and Hoopla as being from Kino Lorber. Any Blu-ray plans for these, and if so, would they be from newer masters than the Hong Kong discs? Thanks!
No current plans.

Not sure who this high profile historian is? We have no plans or remastering or releasing a longer cut of Private Life of S.H. The film elements of the theatrical cut are in pretty bad shape, only a very expensive full restoration could fix the issues on the current master. And reconstructing the longer cut would cost millions. And only if someone could find the missing scenes and then figure out what to do about the audio for those missing scenes.

We have looked into doing new transfer on some other previously released KLSC titles, but we would like to extend those deals before spending large sums to create a new 4K master.

Hi KL Insider

It's rare, but do you know if Kino has access to the Peter Finch flick, The Trials Of Oscar Wilde?

Or the films, Little Odessa from 1994 and Buster & Billie from 1974?

Well, I guess it must not be here in the US for you guys then. I know he's working on it, and has been for some months. Some (but sadly not all - one sequence is still dialogue only) of the footage was found overseas.

Will Slayground, Dead of Night and/or Nixon be part of next week's sale? Those are the three I need.

I'm like that with certain movies as well. For example, I'm tracking down older Blu Ray and DVD releases of Gone with the Wind, because I adore it so.

We have access to the Finch film, but not the others. The rights are still with MGM.

Every title with street dates prior to July 1st is on sale. And one or two July titles.

Kino Insider - do you have any of these?

Hotel Colonial (think this is with MGM)
Misunderstood (1984) (I'm not sure who this is with)
Full Moon in Blue Water (should be with MGM)

Don't have these.

I can confirm Full Moon with MGM, not sure if these other two are still with them.
