It's a solid film, if not kind of a depressing one.

Trying to run thru these DVDs in case I find some on Friday. Here’s my opinion on what I watched:

Big Bad Wolves: This was a pretty good flick with good acting. I don’t agree with the QT quote calling it the best movie of that year it dropped, but it’s worth a watch.

Raging Phoenix: Decent martial arts flick. Some solid fight scenes. Really could have cut 15 minutes off. I witnessed a new Kung-fu style: Drunken Break Dancing style.

High Roller - the Stu Ungar Story: this was a movie I was looking forward to watching since I enjoy Hold ‘Em. I ended up being disappointed with it. It’s okay, but the script was poorly written with fleshing out certain character subplots. It also didn’t help that the main character was a douche. There wasn’t a single thing that made me care or have an interest about him.

Monsters: another okay flick. Honestly, plenty of nothing happened. There was a lack of suspense and thrill. I was trying to figure out where I heard the director’s name. I searched IMDB after and saw he did Godzilla ‘14, which I thought was decent. I’m guessing this was the movie that made him get the Big G gig. I would’ve passed on him, but that’s just me.

FYI, Rogue One is my favorite SW movie.

Again, DO NOT BUY THIS DVD!
The other recent defectives:

Underground (City Lights) dvd 2007 art work varies across the web

Ten (City Lights) dvd 2007

Could the Grand List include defectives in a separate subsection??

I liked this one a lot more than you did. Yeah, the main character was probably a douche - that's usually Michael Imperioli's stock character - but I thought it was very entertaining nonetheless. I believe this also has the bonus designation of being the legendary Pat Morita's final film. (Update: Not even close. I don't know where I pulled that erroneous stat from.) Worth a buck at the very least. I paid more and don't regret it.

Sure are a lot of Jesus flicks in my local DTs this week. I'm shocked, absolutely shocked I tells ya, that they weren't big sellers. (Kirk Cameron wasn't even in any of the ones I browsed, so bummed.)

All this discussion of The Ten made me pull out my DVD I got a long time ago (at Hastings maybe?), it plays fine.

Nothing new at my DT, but the girl was kind enough to sell me their old stock for 50 cents on the dollar. Got dozens upon dozens of copies of The Ten, Weirdsville, and Underground to sell on eBay, flip, trade, etc. Cost me a couple of hundred to buy out their stock of those movies, but I'll make much more than that in return. I feel like a Wall Street wizard today!

Got Stranger Things 2 from Target last week for $8 with the 20% off cartwheel. Now there's a 50% off cartwheel making it $5. I hope getting the difference back won't be an ordeal.

Since I'll be doing that, I'll check a couple of DTs in that area. Will probably be fruitless, but I'll be out and about anyway.

At only 10 cents per home, it was a worthy investment, even if you never watch it...

Did some driving around because I had to return/rebuy Stranger Things 2 from Target.

My closest stores are still useless, but I did very well at other stores.

Blu-rays

Assassination
Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy
Drib (based on strumdogg's enthusiastic recommendation!)
Freeway Killer
Glacier National Park
Joe Dirt 2
Knight of Cups
Mirrors 2 (DVD was a floater but luckily I bought the DVD in a previous wave and can replace the disc)
Mistress America
Popstar
Son of God (Walmart exclusive)
Wet Hot American Summer (stoked to find this!)
Wish Upon

DVDs

1000 to 1
4 Stories of Triumph
A Ballerina's Tale (with slip)
Ace in the Case
The Adventures of Champion (rebought this because my last one was a floater)
Back to the Future: The Animated Series - Season II (has anyone found Season I?)
Betty White
Burning Palms (with slip)
The Cyclist
Dancing on the Edge (with slip)
The Dead Lands (with an amazing slip)
Final Girl
Harry Brown
Jurassic School
Keane
Lady Bloodfight
Mickey Mantle: In His Own Words
Monsters
Multiple Sarcasms (been wanting to see this for years and can't remember why now)
Noobz
Northern Borders
Nurse Betty
The Pyramid
Silent Mountain
Somebody Up There Likes Me (with cool slip)
Sushi Girl

Books

A Hundred Thousand Worlds by Bob Proehl
Hungry Girl: 200 Under 200 (gift)
Tales from the Scaremaster: Clone Camp!

Of course, as usual, no sign of the ones I want most: The Prophet (Blu-ray), either/both of the TCM Hitchcock sets (DVD), Sci-Fi Collection (DVD), or that other 4-pack someone (I think Sonic) found. I'll keep looking...

Still some stores I haven't explored, and my two closest ones have yet to put out stock.

Those are the same ones I am most interested in and also haven’t yet found. At least you got The Dead Lands with the slip — that’s another I am hoping to find.

Is the movie any good?

Total blind buy, but such love and care was put into the slip - seriously, it looks like something a boutique label would put out - that I figure the movie must be very, very good. (Plus, it looks interesting.)

I just saw The Dead Lands and it’s my favorite movie I’ve seen from this batch. Very good flick. Typical revenge/redemption story, but the fact they used primitive tribespeople makes it interesting. Plus it’s not your usual Hollywood whitewash.

And for your previous reply: i compared a poker movie to another poker movie.

That does sound amazing.

I wonder if the Blu will show up in a future wave. Always a risk when you buy DVDs from DT. Worth the gamble to me though, because at most, I've lost maybe $10 buying DT Blus that had DVDs in past waves.

To be fair, High Roller is based on a true story and therefore comes with all of the inherent limitations of that. And you are comparing it to the poker movie. Come on, man. With that said, I still found the Imperioli flick really entertaining. I paid more and don't regret it. (And I also haven't come across it in this sale, which would have really driven me crazy, because it would've been one of my top wants.)

I just opened up my DVD copy of Final Girl and there was some kind of postcard inside. Kinda cool although there was no mention on the packaging about it. Do all copies come with it?
