We should receive the 4K master in September. Most likely January or Feb of 2020.

It was released on VHS.

Never received an official MOD release, unless you mean the old Amazon ones?

Yeah, I've seen a few DVDs on Amazon for it but they're all PAL European ones. One edition even has that "World Cinema" moniker that the old MGM DVD box set of Bergman titles displayed. Too bad legal issues are tying it up. For the longest time I was thinking "oh this is a definite from Kino".

Alan Rudolph's Remember My Name from Sony is another Tony Perkins flick I'd love to have on blu but apparently music rights issues are a problem with that one too.

I completely agree. The gist of the original post you are responding to just seemed to be some kind of attempt to denigrate the movie purely based on stuff he read in a book. All that other talk of hoping it doesn’t get released in favor of other more deserving titles seems like some kind of awkward smoke screen, which only got more and more clumsy with each successive post. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt cuz I usually enjoy his posts, but when he admitted to never having even seen the movie I didn’t know what to make of any of it.

Regardless, THE TWO JAKES is a very fine film on many levels and just because it doesn’t equal its predecessor does not automatically disqualify everything that is worthwhile about it. I would also be thrilled to see it on Blu.

I however, would love to see the director's cut at some point, but that's doubtful to happen.
I'm not sure it's clear cut that the first film is superior, I love both but I find myself watching the sequel more often. Maybe its nostalgia from wearing out my taped off HBO VHS that I had, but something about the sequel brings me back more often. I also watch back to the future 2 far more often so maybe I just like the tie ins between the first and second and the nods to the first film that you get in those two sequels.

Yeah, I love Brion James and loved that he had more to do in this film than the first. Always enjoy him showing up in a film and he wish he didn't go so young.

TT had Panic Room at one time, but they traded for other titles when Sony asked if they could have it back. Of course, Sony did nothing with it.

I hope them or someone does. I don't care if it's just a DVD at this point because I would take it over nothing.

Also it would be nice if someone released a Soundtrack for it.

Awesome, thank you for the reply, I very much appreciate it. I've been wondering for years if it would get repressed, so now I know.

Out of 2000+ Blu-rays, Modern Girls remains the only one I have to adjust the audio sync on when playing back.

When it was first released it seemed off to me so I spent about 5 hours comparing it to 2 tv recordings, the original vhs, and a streaming HD version and the Kino Blu-ray remains out of sync about 96ms compared to every alternative source on my equipment.

No one else seems to have noticed though... so it is probably just me. I have tried probably 4 different Blu-ray players, 3 tvs, and even the PowerDVD pc software... so I probably just have defective equipment

I sincerely thank you again for taking the time to reply and not just ignoring my question!

Does anyone know the chance for Fox titles to get a release. I'm sure Disney have an iron grip now, considering what they're doing with the titles for small independent theatres. But before that would there have been a chance for Fox and Fox Searchlight titles to get a Kino release? I mean I would have loved to have seen A Good Year and Thank You For Smoking get Region A releases before the mouse got them.

So what's the deal with all the Paramount talk lately? Can anyone clarify? I know that Scream obtained a few films from them recently and Criterion has released several as well. KL Insider stated that PM will release a few blu's of catalogue titles next year also.

Are we certain that Kino will release additional PM titles in 2020? And have all the titles licensed from PM to Shout/Scream been announced and that's it? I'd love it if Kino started putting out the PM titles that the studio still has rights to (anything pre-1950 from PM is with Universal of course).

Hey Kino Insider since some Sautet films are scheduled any chance we'll see some Techine films (Thieves, My Favorite Season, Wild Reeds) from that StudioCanal deal at some point.

But I admitted that in my very first post, so it really isn't fair to denigrate my posts as a "smoke screen" based on your lack of reading comprehension, is it?

Edit: Okay, to be fair, it was my third post. I thought I had mentioned it in the first, but I didn't.

With that said, I appreciate the compliment and am happy to hear you usually enjoy my posts. They can't all be winners. (Although I personally don't think there's anything wrong with anything I said.)

Just one last thing to say on the matter: I hope all of you people begging Kino for The Two Jakes plan to buy it day one or at least in the first sale it's offered in (hey, I am DaBargainHunta after all). Otherwise, I won't be in the least bit surprised if/when Kino Lorber Insider admits what a poor seller it turned out to be.

Not sure I follow. Kino Lorber released a number of Fox titles pre-Disney. I have The Good Son and The Crucible, and I know they did quite a few others.

If Kino could do another Disney deal, they should try to get some of the Disney Channel Original Movies that aren’t even on DVD. Maybe not all of them, but some like Don’t Look Under the Bed have cult followings. They don’t even have to be Blu-ray releases. I would even get that on DVD.

Paramount just licensed out a bunch of titles in Australia and have made some unexpected announcements this year. They seem to be off whatever hiatus or internal thing thing that had them clamped down for the past few years.
