Yes it does. Ethernet port and also two USB ports. I guess one for dongle and other for what ever.

whatever = extra memory for BR Live and the like. Just go wired. Much more stable and much faster.

My son and I just installed Cat 5e in the family room this past weekend. Waiting for the $0.88 patch cables from monoprice to hook it up. That's right eighty-eight cents. At Staples they were $7.99 each!!! I can wait a couple days as I actually need 9 of them as I now have 4 switches in my house to hook up a plethera of computers, VoIP, video game consoles, blu-ray players, HDTV and iPod dock (internet streaming to AVR). So that would make a huge difference in cost (Orded 10 at $0.85 and it was less than getting 9).

sammy, if you ran your own cat5 and terminated it to wall jacks, why not just get a crimper and make custom length patch cords?

Not saying you were bad to buy them for such a nice price (I love monoprice).

Nothing more satisfying then wiring up the whole house yourself. My wife thought I was silly when we moved in to run 4 network jacks to every room (8 in the living room split between 2 opposing walls). Not to mention 2 coax, 2 phone (more cat5 actually). Now she admits to see the method to my madness.

Of course I had to get managed switches then to setup vlans...

It is kind of a pain in the butt to make up patch cords. It takes about 5 minutes for each one and sometimes you get the wires crossed or crimped wrong and then they don't work. Making up the wall jacks is much easier to do too. For less than a buck, I'll take the factory made ones that also include the guards to keep from breaking the clips that secure them to the jack. My time making up the patch cords is better spent posting on here.

hahaha you've totally nailed the 1200 ownership experience! or any other Samsung BD player for that matter! i remember doing all those things...

i used to have a 1200, and i keep getting tempted to pick up a 1500 for the bedroom because they're so cheap in my area (<$190), but then i see threads like these that bring me back to reality: Samsung BD players are doo-doo.

I hear ya sammy. I've done it so much, it's not a big deal to me, but for the prices out there, is cheaper to buy them pretty much. Just have to wait to have em.

Default Another frustrated owner

Hello, I too, just purchased Samsung's P1600 believing I would be able to hook and play when i got home. No such luck. The adapter seems to be non-existent and the BBuy folks seem to be as frustrated as i am when i ask about it.
I have another problem with it and that is, the dvd (not blueray) continues to play but the sound cuts out for a couple seconds.? Anyone else have this issue. I have not tried another DVD (also not blueray) so I am not sure if it's a player issue or my disk.
Thanks for any help and or suggestions.

nice solution, yelling HARD WIRE IT!

Sometimes that's not always an option... I live in an apartment where I can't run cat-5 in the walls or I'll get kicked out faster than the wired connection!

I bought this over the 1500 solely for the reason that it was wifi... And the fact that Samsung released the player but hasn't released the dongle totally sucks and kind of pisses me off... It's not all bad though, other than that I really dig this player!

This is just a guess but since Sony are about to release wi fi players I bet Samsung just wanted to get theirs out first even though they dont have it all together yet.

You don't need the Samsung adapter. Some of these are less than $15.

I'd run 100 feet of cat 5 along the baseboard of my apartment before I'd use a wireless connection to stream HD video from netflix, but there's some links for adaptors if you want to go that way.

Unfortunately there are not likely many folks expiriencing this yet besides yourself for a few resons;

1.You are an early adopter of a BR player that brand new on the market.

2.atm only 1 brick and mortar retailer is even stocking it, it's so new.

3. Not many people are going to pay $300 for an entry level player and are either waiting for the BD-P3600/4600's to ship next month, or waiting a couple of months until the price likely go down to $199-249 when the Net retailers like Amazon start selling it.Never the less, you are having a problem that other players in the past have been know to sometimes have.

BIf you can, bring it back and exchange it for another. If the new unit does the same thing, then it's likely an issue that Samsung will hopefully fix with a firmware update. If it plays the dvds without dropping sound, then at least you know your first unit likely had an issue.
Good Luck.

Hi all - joining this thread from the Sharp Aquos BD-HP20U thread. My 1-yr old Sharp kept spitting my BD discs ("incompatable disc") and nothing I've tried had resolved the issue. Sharp customer service was non-existent. I stopped in at BestBuy today and the salesguy was pretty knowlegable about the new Samsungs even though he said they just got them in. He did tell me up front that I would need the wireless adapter thingy (dongle). They had another Samsung with wireless (no dongle needed) but it doesn't do Netflix and was $100 more, and that was one of my criteria for buying. The only other machine that will do Netflix (that they had) was the LG and it was quite a bit more than the Samsung and no wireless option at all. The dongle is available for purchase on their (Samsung) website for $82 but it's backordered 4 weeks... guess I'll go with the mail Netflix movies for now
So far I've played Austrailia and Appaloosa with no issues - haven't tried a regular DVD yet.

Cheers from SE Michigander who still has a job (we're gettin pretty scarce)!

For those looking for the BD-P3600, I just found them in my local Best Buy.Before buying one there are a few things you should know.

1.It does NOT have the HQV of Samsungs 2500/2550 models, i.e. it DOES NOT contain the Reon upscaling chip.

2.It DOES come with the WFi dongle(the 1600 DOES NOT) and the 7.1 analog outputs on back.

3.ATM it's priced at $399 and change but will no doubt go down to $250-$299 once the net retailers like Amazon start selling it later this month.

4.It is faster loading bluray movies than the BD-P2500/50 but the Bluray picture is about the same imo, and maybe not quite as good.Keep in mind, the 2500/50 have had several firmware upgrades over the psat year which have improved and refined it's features. The BD-P 3600 likely will over the
coming months as well.

IMO if you must buy a new Bluray player NOW, then go with the BDP-2500.It has the Reon HQV(which gives the BEST dvd/1080i upscaled piture out of ANY Bluray player) and also has Netflix streaming(2550 BB exclusive model also has Pandora music streaming if you are subscribed to their service). You can find the BD-P2500 for between $250-$299 online.IMO, it's the best buy
of any Bluray player currentlky out.

Yeah the 2500 is the best if you use those feature because it's the same price. Until it's not available anymore ... off course if you don't care about upscaling and streaming then it makes not difference imho...

I'm looking forward to the 3600 or 4600 myself but I did see the 1600 yesteray at Best Buy.

I'm wondering how the the 1600 does with DVDs though? I still buy them since not every movie I want on Bluray is out on Bluray yet and I highly doubt they'll come out anytime soon. The studios seem focused on either bs cult titles, new releases, obvious big hit titles in recent years, and a few classics.

So for now I'm just buying DVDs and getting new releases on Bluray that I like.
You are wrong. There are many players that work fine out of the box. I replaced my pain in the ass 1200 last fall with the Sony 550 when it was released. So far I have had zero issues with it, and it has played every disc flawlessly. It had one firmware update, which the player told me was available when I turned it on (it is hardwired into the router), and the update addressed some BD Live activity I think (I don't use BD Live at all).

I would never ever buy another Samsung product, especially a blu ray player. Get a Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic, Denon, anything but a Samsung.
