Even with better colors it still looks like exactly what is it: mediocre, dated scan.

This is a fresh 4K scan from the negative and there's nothing "dated" about it. The pictures I've provided above are downconverted to only 675P. So, you cannot judge the sharpness of the transfer from my regraded stills. Are you talking about the grainy look? I'm sure you remember this was shot on film stock. What were you expecting from a film that's almost two-decades-old and predates the DI-ready film stock we have today? The film grain and organic textures present in the scan is absolutely beautiful and far removed from how films look today. Anybody can disagree, but I love this scan. The only thing that needs improvement is colours, contrast, gamma and brightness.

You can take a look at 1080p version of my regraded stills here -

I'm talking about how JPIII looks on UHD, I don't care about your pics.

It's more than obvious it comes from old scan, and not 4K one. There's nothing organic, beautiful or filmic about how it looks, so stop being delusional and watch some discs that are indeed modern, 4K scans like some titles from Sony or Warner, even Universal.

JP3's master is clearly the same ancient one. It reeks. Color-timing isn't its only issue. Universal can do better.

JP3 is so forgettable I don't blame Universal for not caring.

Most of us were used to the dull, non-white balanced, pinkish and low contrast look of the DVD and the Blu-rays to the point that we started to believe those were faithful to the theatrical look. The UHDs (of the first 3 films) didn't fare better, either. Based on the 35mm print frames that I saw and some of the colour timed footage on the JP3 BTS footage in the DVDs, I tried bringing back the more contrasty and saturated look of the original film. The results might be uneven but they are truer to the original colours than any home video of the film has been so far.
Would love to get comments, suggestions on these. Thanks.
Why go through the trouble of color correcting when you could simply boost the contrast on your TV settings

Also, I don't recall my DVD copy of JPIII ever looking that colorful.

That's because the original DVD was wrong too. He may be off about the master itself, but his color correction is pretty spot on. That's what it looked like in theaters, and images from prints clearly show. It's a vibrant movie with a specific look to it not many give credit for and I blame its poor home video releases on that.

I think it's you who is being "delusional" that this is the "old scan" when the evidence clearly points to the contrary. The scan is far tighter and has finer grain and textural detail than the noise-ridden Blu-ray. Not every scan will look the same because of how the film was shot and the conditions under which it was originally lit and photographed. JP3 was shot with a lot of mists on set and that reduced sharpness and detail in camera. So, it won't look as spiffy and sleek as most films from around that time. Can it look better? It can, but I doubt by much. The only areas that can be significantly improved upon, I think, are the ones I addressed in my above colour-timed frames.
Also, Universal has said they used fresh 4K scans for JP 1-3 and I'm inclined to think they'd not lie. What they did with those scans, however, is what makes the scans unwatchable. JP1 is the ugliest of the lot with the cold pink and magenta colours and dead-looking grass, which is a colour grading that has persisted since the 1997 VHS (not the 1994 one), despite the 35mm source having such warm and rich colours.

It's not simple contrast and colour boosting. One has to adjust the gamma around the contrast, colour, tint (add a bit of green) and brightness. Avoid the whites being blown out and still brighten and saturate the image to a tone that resembles the prints. A simple increase in saturation won't do it. It takes time and effort.
All of the home videos except the very first VHS releases of the three films are wrong in terms of colour and contrast. The colour-grading was changed from the second VHS editions of the first two films. For the third, it started with the DVD and the Video CD masters. Home videos can barely be trusted if you want the original theatrical look.

This is how amazon.com sent the Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary Collection UHD Digibook to mainland Europe.

_MG_3730sm.jpg

And amazingly enough, it's in pristine condition. Sheer luck.

Watched the first 38min of JP today, and am pretty pleased with the PQ so far, except for the first shot of the fat guy's scene, which was terribly DNR'd. I detected some banding in the projector room scene, and the CGI shots of the dinosaurs look considerably more processed than the rest, but it's alright.
Hope it doesn't get worse DNR wise. I like that there is no more of the high frequency noise/grain in the dark scenes.
Watched it on my 50inch Kuro in 1080p.

Got myself a CAV THX laserdisc of Jurassic Park and watched it on my Pioneer LD-S1. This will be my go to version of JP from now on. Fantastic color grade and the most filmic version out of any home video release. So far, I found the following laserdiscs to be better than any other releases, including UHD:

The Abyss Special Edition THX
True Lies THX
Fantasia
Alice in Wonderland
Jurassic Park THX
Amadeus THX

Will investigate Aliens and The Terminator next.

Where did you get a film print? What kind of print do you have? How do you store it (under what conditions)?

It's the best sequel in the franchise for me, because it is the only one that matches the original in terms of atmosphere and excitement.

That scene near the end, in which Excellent!

That scene near the end, [SPOILER ALERT AHEAD!] In which they find out they're in a bird cage and the Pterosaur slowly comes walking out of the shadow.

Excellent!

But the transfer is sooo god damn disappointing. I would watch Lost World 20 times before I'd give JP III another spin on UHD. Whereas the original movie has a passable transfer that won't stop me watching potentially 5+ times a year (as per usual for me).

Imagine my disappointment when I watched JPIII on UHD for the first time. Especially since Lost World UHD looks quite good.

JP3 is a great old school monter island movie IMO. Like Harryhausen with CGI. It just happens to be a sequel to Spielberg quality movies and thus seems like it should be way more than that.

For me, "The Lost World" was one of the worst muthahf****** movies I have ever seen. I was stuck with 6 friends, in the middle of a theater that was packed. I couldn't escape. Each passing minute was more tortuous and desparaging. I kept thinking that I should just walk out, wait for the movie to end and play video games or something in the lobby. I kept thinking "Well, it CAN'T get any worse." But it did. It got even more worse, and worser than worse. It became the absolute worst viewing experience at the movies of my life.
I have walked out of movies since "The Lost World". It's the first movie that I know I should have walked out of, but didn't - because I'm a stubborn fool.

"Jurasic Park III" was an unbelieveable uptick in quality for me, in every single way.
Still, I think it's "meh" overall.

Clearly you must have not seen Fallen Kingdom yet, one of the worst movies (along with TLJ) of the past 20 years...
