Disney, MTV and the like know, that more than buying something that they like, they'll buy something that all their friends like. It is far and few the teenager who doesn't respond to peer pressure of some kind. And while the extremes are drugs, drinking and smoking, it can be as simple as a song or an artist. "Everyone I know listens to it so I will too." MTV has fed on that for its entire existence and the Disney Channel, who has gone seriously downhill I agree, is just cashing in on that trend as well. They milk something until the next best thing comes up or they simply create it.
Yeah, its heartbreaking. That's why I said the waste of time and potential on such garbage was tragic.

should the fault be placed on Disney or weak parents?

The response was only inevitable if you took it personally. I didn't direct it to anyone here; it was a general response to the general question.

I'm not afraid of your response, I just think it's wrong and silly. From what I can tell, the entire morning for the Disney Channel is directed to preschoolers. It's funny you characterize them as "maggots."

Illustrating absurdity by being absurd -- you called people who carped about the Disney channel's content as "grumpy bastards", I resopnded in no less an absurd fashion.

And the subject of this thread is not the Disney channel morning, is it? No it's not, so you're using a strawman argument. Obviously pre-schoolers don't have the critical facilities to know a CGI Mickey Clubhouse show is a cheap CGI knock off of Dora the Explorer. I hold 14 year olds to a somewhat higher standard.

1) I said "some people," actually. If you took personal offense to that, it's not my fault that you lumped yourself in with the group. Cry about it somewhere else.

2) The subject of the thread is "Disney Channel." Roughly 20% (or more) of Disney Channel programming is directed to little kids, not the "tweeners" you referenced. Good try.

Ironic that you wave the strawman argument around, isn't it? You might not be a bastard (it's up for debate, but that might be for a different thread, I don't know), but you sure as hell are grumpy. Over the Disney Channel. LOL.

EDIT: Clearly you're enjoying this; I eagerly await your next tortured response.

The OP was clearly talking about the Disney Channel afternoon and pre-prime-time lineup of shows, not Mickey's Clubhouse or any of the toddler-oriented content. And yes, being reflexively called a "bastard" by someone lumping all the critics into one basket -- you do that, what do you think is going to happen?

I didn't do that. Once again, I said "some people." Do you even know what a "strawman argument" is? LOL.

FWIW, Disney Channel's morning lineup is great.

More like I'm just amazed that people claim Disney is ruining the youth/entire world.

I think overall what annoys people might be Disney's type of humor. A lot of the time it's not funny and it's cheesy. It's probably a result of Disney trying to imitate Nickelodeon and now Nickelodeon imitates Disney (i.e. iCarly, pretty decent show but tries too hard to be random).

One thing I don't like about Disney is, at least with Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly Place, the friendships aren't realistic.

HM started great but quickly Miley Stewart became constantly rude and belittling to Lily. The movie is supposed to be her finding her way again so maybe they realized it.

WOWP is REALLY bad. Alex has never been remotely kind to her best, and seemingly only, friend Harper. All she does is cut her down. The show in general is not made that well so despite Selena Gomez being attractive (I'm 18, I can say that =P) I can't watch it.

So overall Disney Channel is definitely not as good as the old Disney. Honestly it will probably get worse because, though Demi Lovato is a kick ass person/singer, she can't act. Jonas Brothers can't either. They both have shows now and I've already seen Demi's (Sonny With A Chance) and it's pretty bad.

So my point is that it can be bad but people just go WAY overboard with the negativity. Maybe it's not as good to raise your kids on as the older shows were but it's not like TV should be raising kids anyways.

My mom let me watch South Park and basically anything else I wanted. I turned out ok... I think lol.

I did eventually become Christian though and, while I'm not now, it is kind of my moral foundation.

I remember the joke being, "Can you imagine a world where human beings actually talked like the characters on the ABC 'Sabrina'? "

(Insert WoWP or Suite Life, and the joke still works.)

My mom always let me watch anything, I grew up on Mission Impossible & Man From UNCLE and watching Bugs Bunny, yet she was there to offer guidelines like I am sure your parents were there for you. Now a days too many parents just don't take the time to be with their kids, yet they sure wanted to make them on that night They seem to think kids are accesories to be discarded when tired of them.

Zorro's coming this winter as a Disney Treasure set. Pretty sure its going to comprise of some hour long shows plus the movie The Sign of Zorro that was cobbled together out of Season 1.

Hopefully they'll also release the complete season sets (non-colorized) some day (yes, I know you can buy them at the Disney movie Club).

HSM was awful. Hannah Montana awful. Even Stevens, whatever the hell that show was with the rich aryan twins -- garbage. Walt Disney won Emmy's for his TV shows. The Mickey Mouse Club was astonishing for it's time. I think the Disney Channel as presently constituted is an embarassment. And the parade of former Disney Channel stars who have gone on to become the skank ho and slut du jour grows longer by the day.

Yes I saw they were available on the Disney Club, I never saw the need to join that however, they don't have BD I think? In any case I hope you are right and they do release it, I will be getting it for sure. I suppose it's going to be only DVD?

One would think. The DMC season sets are colorized and they look like worn out prints of bad middle school educational films. The really need new transfers. While they're not unwatchable, they come damn close. Looking forward to the WDT release. Should be cool.

Speaking of Decembr Disney releases, 20,000 Leagues was pushed back to December, and I'm praying that was moved to allow for a Blu-Ray release at the same time.

Douglas. Mason. Lorre. Disney. 20,000 Leagues - December 2009. Cross your fingers for a Blu release.

Yeah I know parents like that... to be fair some do try really hard and they just don't have the time. Still if a parent treats their kid with love and respect I think they'll learn to respect others and try to be a decent person. Even then, that's making the ridiculously hard job of raising a kid sound a bit too simple.
