just curious, why is this such a big deal?

its much easier to see where people views lie (if thats the point of the thread) to make a single poll versus possibly having to dig through pages of responses.

We have been getting a ton of complaints about this, plus the polls come from market researchers. If they want to make a thread and read it, and gather info, there is nothing we can do to stop them. Are we going to make life easy for them? No.

Depends on who starts it. Depends on whether the discussion needs a poll or not. In most cases right now, these threads don't need a poll, the one you just mentioned doesn't need a poll, but your Rorschach Vs. Boba Fett one does.

glad i've only added a poll to one of my threads

well two if you count the christian bale one, but as i said on that thread, i wanted to take the poll off after i published the thread...

but the polls (i only remember one in particular) with like 20 or 30 choices is insane....
