I just watched Attack of the Clones on Disney+ and thought it looked pretty weird. Super dark, which helped it sometimes and hurt it other times, but also kind of... smudged? I know it was shot on very early digital cameras, so maybe that's related. I hope it looks better on disc though.

Why do people always act like they know what they're talking about.

Because they have to. Or Rian Johnson was right all along. And we can't be having that.

I've got the person you quoted on ignore for a reason but they're not wrong about Babby Yoda, that thing is going to make far more coin than a UOT release ever would...

Especially since the 6.1 DTS-HD mix on the Complete Saga Blu-Ray set (1-6) sounds so good when decoded with DTS Neural-X.

You seem to be so pathologically concerned with defending TLJ that you outright ignored all the criticisms and went after someone not even talking about it

You going to tell me why it's a bad film or not?

Do we know if there will be a standard package release or is the set from Best Buy the only one?

The writing, the pacing and the direction.

The writing is terrible for several reasons: It not only gives a ridiculous amount of screentime towards b-plots but at least one of them actively contradicts its own moral (Poe/Holdo). It doesn't have a consistent tone and wildly oscillates between being a serious drama to a wacky and family-fun adventure comedy. For one character (Finn), it just completely scraps his established character and forces him to literally just repeat his arc from the previous movie. Many plot beats are essentially a repeat of V the way VII repeats IV. Any opportunity for compelling narratives that arise from the couple of legitimately interesting "subversive" story decisions is immediately taken off the table (Snoke dies, but nothing really changes whatsoever in Kylo or Rey because of it).

The pacing is a huge issue too - it's completely sluggish and lacks energy for most of the movie, which is fine if it's using that time to adequately develop the characters, but it doesn't.

The direction is atrocious. Things that should be majestic and impactful, like Leia using the Force for the first time onscreen, induce laughter. The fight scenes have no dramatic tension whatsoever and enemies are easily-defeated (Finn yelling "hey." to Phasma before hitting her and she randomly falls through the floor lol).

All of this is off the top of my head.

Now, you may be able to see past all this, and there are certainly elements of the movie I like. And more power to you if you can enjoy it with relatively few reservations.

One thing I've noticed, though, is that TLJ defenders generally like to hurl insults rather than defend the movie on its merits. Curious. I think in light of all these issues you're painting with a hugely broad brush to say that critics of the movie are "one-dimensional".

No idea, but amazon.co.uk seems to have a more standard package.
No idea about the disk count or contents though.

That's what I'm worried about and I know that's why Disney has this set up first to get everyone to pre-order it before we see the other options. I don't need all the bells and whistles and honestly don't have the room for the set on my shelf, but I don't want to miss out on all of the extra discs included.

It's literally the sharpest double-edged sword I've held recently in regards to a boxset.

Probably not right away. Most "double wide" sets get shrunk at some point.

Couldn't come up with any non-Fox examples.

In terms of the disc content, do they usually still provide all of the same content?

They also have DNR mixed sporadically throughout all three of the original films, too, though. Which IS a problem. At least for purists like myself (and this is from someone that doesn't even like Star Wars). But I still want every conceivable detail to remain in tact.

The 4K 'masters' they're using on Disney+ don't look horrific or anything to that degree. Just not good. And certainly not to the standard that they should be held to considering the magnitude of this franchise's reach--and influence. These should be some of the best looking discs on ANY format they're released on--but again, if Disney uses these same masters on disc, I can't wait to come back in here a few months from now and watch people voice the same exact criticisms that myself and others had observed through the Disney+ streams.

I feel like no matter how you try and articulate these points to people, there will always be a small pocket that have developed Stockholm syndrome to Star Wars and Disney, and will therefore defend them and how these films look, to a fault.

I was even surprised by the post-processing effects they added to the prequels. There's some definite noise reduction going on, which as you pointed out, can present some smeary-looking images.

To use a comparison as I did previously, if people were bothered by the transfers for 'Iron Man' and 'Thor' (which a good portion of people were) then they aren't going to like how these films translate to UHD, either.

Again, not unless Disney go back and use entirely new 4K masters with no DNR or EE.
