Oh I see it was the star wars revisted version. Which is a good fan recreation it's still odd to use that as if it was the exact same thing as what was seen for the original theatrical release.
It's the 2006 "bonus" DVD, actually.

This set will 100% depend on bonus features. I don’t care about the movies because I’ll be able to watch whatever 4K restorations come out.

I can buy Rise separately (which I loved btw). My biggest worry would be TFA. The prequels I don’t care about.

So it all hinges on the bonus features.

Tom Stoppard did the final rewrites of the Revenge of the Sith screenplay for Lucas.

They should include the deleted scene from TLJ where Luke finds out about Hans Death

And Carrie Fisher unofficially brushed up the earlier prequels, apparently. Still didn't stop the dialogue from sounding like it was poorly translated into English from another language.

PS

I don't care if Robert Towne wrote Chinatown, he also wrote Mission Impossible 2

Right, but was just pointing out to the original poster that at least one “prestigious” writer did indeed work on the SW prequels at some point (regardless of how it actually ended up turning out).

Chinatown was good because of Polanski and Nicholson.

Just returned from Skywalker.
It was okay, not great. But it was better than Force Awakens and infinitely better than Last Jedi!
But what can you do when you disregard Lucas' treatment, eff up two movies and them beg him to help fix the end?

Not at all. I know that is what happened.
JJ said he brought in Lucas to help end it.

Glad they didn’t. Those prequels were terrible.

To each their own. I, personally, love the prequels.

TNT had their marathon on over the weekend. I put it on in the background since I haven't watched any of them in quite possibly a decade.

Unwatchably awful. I mean godawful.

Bless anyone who can tolerate how awful they are.

For me it depends 100% on proper transfers and excellent picture quality. Limited or better yet NO digital mucking(DNR, edge enhancement crap). If they get that right then its a day 1 purchase. If they dont them Im probably out.

I don't get how people hate on the prequels but love a new hope. Your nostalgia aside, A New Hope is awful.

It's the most billy basic plot out of all of the movies.. Now where fans of the original trilogy will say that's a plus I disagree. Its not just basic in terms of Star Wars, Its basic in terms of science fiction films in general. It blatantly feels like a one shot movie, good vs bad and is all resolved with a nice little bow at the end. No way did he have a trilogy or saga in mind making this movie

He consulted with him. GL has visited the sets of all previous Disney SW movies. I wouldn’t read too much into it.

It being so "billy basic" is exactly why it became such a roaring success though. Lucas employed some of the most tried and tested storytelling tropes coupled with then-groundbreaking VFX. It's still my favourite SW film precisely because everything's so morally unambiguous and because it feels like a self-contained movie, a swashbuckling actioner that isn't seeking to set the world to rights nor is it clouded by the need to join up a hundred and one dots in the wider 'saga'. So pure. So simple. So much darned fun.

Well he kinda did, and kinda didnt.

He did because the first film is the first act taken from an already existing bigger 3 part story. And he kinda didnt because he didnt know if he would get to complete the 3 part story, so at the time probably just concentrated on getting just that one film made.
