Recently hooked up my Infinity PC350 center and had some problems last night. I was watching Step Brothers (on blu-ray) and noticed the dialog was very flat/muffled/quiet coming out of the center. When music or louder scenes that involved the 2 mains or other speakers came on, everything sounded fine. The audio was Dolby True HD and was decoded by my PS3 and passed to my Onkyo 605. This is the first time I have noticed this and it was fairly obvious. Anyone have any ideas?
Note: I am crossing the PC350 over @ 80hz and ran Audessey. I increased the decibles Audessey set by 4 already. |

Not sure, haven't had much time to experiment yet. It just seems like that was the first time it happened. Not sure if it is related to True HD or not. I had Dynamic Range Control off in the PS3.

You may need to keep your center level raised a bit, as you've adjusted. I think the efficiency rating on your new center channel is lower than with your old Klipsch center. Plus, you don't have the loaded horn tweeter anymore.
Do you have a SPL meter you can calibrate things with? The meter would be more accurate than your Audyssey microphone. |

I had a tweeter that was blown on one of my main speakers and highes completely dead. It was a ribbon tweeter so this may be a different case but still should not hear anything from them if it was burnt out.

Here's a simple test - disconnect your centre from the receiver and plug it into either the left or right front speaker connectors - does it sound *roughly* as good as the speaker it replaced? If it's still muffled, something's probably wrong with the tweeter or crossover inside the centre speaker. If it starts sounding good again, look at your receiver setup.

id also consider that you previous Klipsch C-1 was horn driven, with a higher sensitivity level of 93.5db compared to your infinity C350 of 91db. id also consider the fact that horns have a wider dispersion pattern than a normal tweeter does (thus others considering it as harsh at times).
angle the center speaker towards the listening position, and if ever, experiment on placement. id try to place it right below the telly itself, on the top shelf to see how it performs. your audessey probably screwed it up a bit. just a thought. |

I am crossing the PC350 over @ 80 right now, since that is as low as it will go accordint to the specs. Would it help if I raised the crossover to 100? |

its not 'just a case of lower sensitivity', but it is a part of it. its more because the klipsch was a horn driven center speaker, as ive mentioned in my previous posting. have even you tried my suggestions by the way? if you do set the crossover at 100hz, your essentially losing the deeper end of what your center can do. its rollover tho can vary, so you can give that a try. heck for confirmation, you can try to put back your klipsch in its place, and see the difference once again. i suspect it more on placement, rather than settings. again, a horn loaded speaker has more dispersement, rather than a regular tweeter. |
