So don't buy it then.

What's your point?

If the sky is falling, nothing that they're going to include is going to appease you.

You can't see what or how but they've digitized everything they have since the last boxed set. There's a billion new things they could add to this.

Truer words have never been spoken. Shocking how many special features disappear from one release to another on these sets. Stuff that was in the 2004 sets that didn't make it to 2011. Stuff on individual prequel releases that didn't make it to any box set.

It's the same with the Infinity Sage collection. Tons of features that got dropped bonus discs that were included in individual releases along the way. At the end of the day, you can't just forever stack every previous bonus feature into every new re-release. It would be never ending.

Eh, but that's the thing with the Infinity Sage: there were only, what, another four discs that they could've included (retailer exclusive stuff aside, which really is a never-ending rabbit hole) to really round it off e.g. the Iran Man 1 and 2 bonus BDs and the bonus BDs from the Phase 1 and Phase 2 sets. That's four discs on top of the 48 that are already in the set, hardly what I'd call OTT.

When it comes to Star Wars I'll concede that there are more extras than what the Marvel movies have accrued over time, of course they have, but Lucasfilm hardly even try to carry things over from one set to the next which is so galling. Want the superb Empire of Dreams documentary? Gotta keep the DVD Bonus disc. Wanna see some outtakes and deleted scenes from the OT? Gotta keep that 2011 OT bonus disc. Want to keep the superb extras that were created for the DVDs of the prequels? Gotta keep those DVD bonus discs. Even when they did the complete Indiana Jones four movie set they somehow conspired to chop up, omit and/or re-order the existing extras for Crystal Skull even though it would've been easier to just port them across!

Given how far compression standards have come, as well as plenty of this legacy SW stuff being in standard def anyway, then Lucasfilm could use these individual bonus discs as repositories for pretty much every major extra that's ever been made for these movies, seeing as this is shirley the last physical media release that these movies will have (endless repackaging aside). But I bet they won't, as why change the habit of a lifetime?

Back then those discs were $125 from Criterion so 3 movies for "only" $250 was somewhat of a bargain. $250 in 1993 being over $440 in today's dollars. Imagine the pout-rage over having to pay that amount?
I too preordered it layaway style. Back then you pretty much had to buy something on release day because that's when the prices were lowest (at places like Tower Records) - it was in stock (otherwise you'd have to wait for a repressing which might take months) - and prices would go UP, not down. A $30 LD in 1992 was suddenly $35 in 1995. "Black Friday" wasn't a thing either. $250 in 1993, with 420 lines or so of resolution - even worse chroma resolution (color noise in transfers were amplified by poor pressings), limited to a single language in 2 channel PCM with an analog backup with one channel of that taken for a commentary. And we were grateful and happy when we got the disc...at least until there was a recall because disc 5 (I think) had a few seconds cut off at the beginning which was corrected. Then the discs rotted because the Mitsubishi Japan pressed LDs were prone to that.

So when older generations whine about the "entitlement complex" of the younger ones, it's stuff like this we're talking about.

Only because there was no confirmation of digital codes included right away. Once there was, it sold out in a day or two.

Oh Lord, there was a day before the modern era where people were entertained and had to...rely on nothing but their memory. There was no such thing as home film entertainment of any kind. WHAT DID THEY DO WITH THEMSELVES?? (Not whine for hours on end and call themselves mature).

The fact that so many people complained about Hayden, Adam, and even Luke being whiny is becoming more ironic by the day.

Well i didn't mean to put words in your mouth, i said new because i assumed you meant new. If you didnt mean new, then that just backs up the exact point i was making of that they are likely to mostly be old extras. And that's what i was being realistic about!

Not a problem. Considering there are so many extras spread across so many different releases, I'd love for there to be something consolidated.

In addition, there's HD versions of the OG docs - with FSW2J having never been released. There's the "new" Empire doc. More deleted scenes and outtakes. All trailers in HD.

And...and....and...

I'm not saying all or any of that will be included but they're all possibilities.

It's funny people are comparing laserdisc prices, because I've started cutting down on purchases, with my movie collection getting out of control over the years with a bunch of stuff I don't really care about, often because of sales. My mentality for buying movies now is imagining I was still in the 80's/90's, buying laserdisc. If I'd drop the 30-40 bucks for the movie then, it's probably worth buying. If not, I probably don't need to own it.

Whether we like it or not, many don't have reasonable pricing expectations anymore after more than a decade of piracy and streaming subscriptions. It's a challenge for any possible future collector's market, which would require higher prices to make up for lower volume.

All is not lost. There *ARE* collectors out there willing to pay for a premium product.

The problem is that studios don't have enough faith.
Or, more specifically, the children running these home video departments probably don't buy discs themselves nor are they collectors. So they're probably self-sabotaging the situation by putting no effort into releases whatsoever.

I remember trying to convince my mother to buy me one of the Indiana Jones movies and her telling me that the VHS said "Widescreen" (which I think was one of the reasons I wanted that particular copy) and that it wouldn't play right on our TV. I believed her...
