Are any of those programs freeware?

I'd rather not have to re-rip 100 CDs.

Not that I've seen. You can google this and get some answers, though.

I'm with you man. I wish the iPod was like a removeable drive (like my old, crappy Dell Jukebox was) where you could copy and paste files to and from the unit. Sadly, it's not. One of the few drawbacks to owning an iPod.

There are more than just a few drawbacks

Sorry OP - I think you're SOL. If you were using anything BUT ITunes I could tell you 1,000 ways.

ITunes makes it impossible for you to do anything with music that you OWN. Isn't Apple awesome?

The best way I've found to prevent that from happening again is to pick up a portable hard drive. I use the WD Passport. When you re-rip make sure your default music file is selected is on the portable, (do not let apple organize your folder) then rip away.

When it does crash again you'll have all your music including purchases on your drive.

That route saved me so much grief.

Do you leave that plugged in all the time?

Yup I do. It's either that or you plug it I'm everytime you rip/ purchase a new cd or movie. Or if you want to play any music. So it's easier to keep it plugged in. I haven't had one problem with it.

Here you go.

[snip]

Download the program, the serial is inside the file. Follow the setup instructions and use the serial to register.

I have used it twice now to get my songs off my iPod and on to a new itunes. It even keeps your play counts and everything.
