I always wanted to buy this, as I don`t have it in the collection yet, but I think
I will wait until the remake releases cause I`m hoping there will still be a new edition released by then. Maybe even a new 4K remaster?

Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson are certainly not Frank Herbert, but they said they would have never be able to approach is level before they even wrote the House books. They are still well written IMHO.

"Hey, here's a pale reflection of a worthwhile thing. Enjoy!"

A few of them make for decent fanfiction-level fun, but some of them (especially the last few) are clearly nothing more than cash-grabs.

I thought Hunters of and Sandworms of sequels they did to the main series were a fantastic tie-up.

Yes, but I think the cream of the crop are the House books.

Most of that would be just people clicking on the wrong link in google and the fact there is little to nothing coming out currently.

You mean the ones where they say that Mohiam is Jessica's mother, a direct contradiction of what Frank Herbert wrote in Children of Dune?

That's the sort of thing you get in these subrate spinoffs, folks.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading of the origins of the houses of Atriedes, Corrino, and Harkonnen. If I had to make a favorite it would House Harkonnen.

Also, don't they completely misunderstand or misrepresent who Daniel and Marty were supposed to be?

I wouldn't be surprised. I don't remember anything post-Children well enough to be sure. Time for a reread!

I enjoyed those when they came out, too; and the Machine Crusade trilogy, and the two post-Chapterhouse books. They're not good books, though; they have no replay value whatsoever, no depth, no philosophy ... no reason to exist apart from putting money in the authors' bank accounts.

I've had a great time reading the direct sequel to Herbert's original novel, Paul Of Dune, and have now moved on to the first 'House' book in the Prelude trilogy. Got the Legends Of Dune trilogy ready to roll after the Preludes, with a hardback copy of The Butlerian Jihad for book 1.

I knew from the get-go that Brian and Kevin A couldn't match Mr Herbert Senior, but so far i'm really enjoying what the duo have created. I think it's fantastic we have even more stuff coming with The Throne Of Dune and Leto of Dune (working title) at some point.

Yes -- they were supposed to be highly-advanced Face Dancers, not stupid, mustache-twirling Skynet murder-robots.

The Brian/Kevin McDune™ novels are childish, third-rate, dumbed-down Terminator/Matrix/Star Wars-ripoff trash, possessing about all the philosophical and intellectual depth of a foot-bath.

Did they ever publish Frank Herbert's notes for the final book?
Would be better that way, like The History of Middle-Earth series, than the crap his son churned out

I finally dug out my Blu-ray of this and watched it a few weeks ago after I read a piece on Ars Technica about the new film(s) coming out soon. Enjoyed as much as I did when I was a kid. The BD blows away every prior home release I've seen.

Am curious if the aussie release is an improvement of the US release.
