BUCCANEER’S GIRL (1950)
• NEW Audio commentary by Author/Film Historian Lee Gambin
• Theatrical Trailer
• Dual-Layered BD50 Disc
• Optional English Subtitles

Starring Yvonne De Carlo (Criss Cross), Philip Friend (Thunder on the Hill) and Elsa Lanchester (Witness for the Prosecution), Buccaneer’s Girl is an exciting adventure beautifully shot in glorious Technicolor by legendary cinematographer Russell Metty (Spartacus, Touch of Evil). When brave Boston stowaway Deborah McCoy (De Carlo) is captured by the notorious pirate Frederic Baptiste (Friend), she stealthily escapes to New Orleans and uses her talents to get hired as an entertainer. However, she soon discovers that Baptiste has a secret identity—aristocratic playboy Captain Robert Kingston—and must decide whether to assist him in his daring schemes or turn him over to the law. Frederick De Cordova (Bedtime for Bonzo) directed this rip-roaring swashbuckler filled with romance and intrigue, co-starring Robert Douglas (Tarzan, the Ape Man), Andrea King (The Beast with Five Fingers), Norman Lloyd (Saboteur), Jay C. Flippen (The Lemon Drop Kid), Douglass Dumbrille (The Lives of a Bengal Lancer) and Peggie Castle (99 River Street).

Considering she made several films at Paramount in the 30’s and 40’s, will we see any Madeleine Carroll from this new Universal contract?

• Theatrical Trailer
• Dual-Layered BD50 Disc

THE WORLD IN HIS ARMS (1952)
• NEW Audio Commentary by Film Critic Nick Pinkerton
• Theatrical Trailer
• Dual-Layered BD50 Disc
• Optional English Subtitles

From Raoul Walsh, the legendary director of The Thief of Bagdad, The Big Trail, The Roaring Twenties, White Heat and Gun Fury, comes this epic seafaring adventure starring screen greats Gregory Peck (Duel in the Sun, The Big Country) and Anthony Quinn (The Guns of Navarone, Against All Flags), and beautifully shot in Technicolor by award-winning cinematographer Russell Metty (Magnificent Obsession, Midnight Lace). Set in 1850, Peck stars as swaggering sea captain Jonathan Clark, who poaches seal pelts off the coast of Russian-owned Alaska. However, the real danger begins upon returning to San Francisco where he falls for a countess (Ann Blyth, Thunder on the Hill) fleeing from her engagement to a greedy Russian prince (Carl Esmond, Ministry of Fear). When Clark learns of her kidnapping, he sets sail—amid gale-force winds and treacherous seas—on a harrowing race to rescue his lady love and beat his longtime rival (Quinn). Featuring breathtaking action sequences, soaring cinematography and bawdy humor, this exciting classic is one to enjoy again and again.

What part of my post made it sound like they offered us mostly B-titles and not enough A ones. Why do you guys feel the need to create false rumors?

We cannot share the reasons why this deal fell through, but it did.

We have lots of A titles in both deals, most of the A titles in the second deal have not been announced, Lonely Are the Brave, Alice in Wonderland, The River, The Ipcress File, Amazon Women on the Moon... are just a few of the A titles we've announced so far.

No negativity was meant. I was in fact dismissing the nonsense about Paramount B titles.

And to be quite honest, a majority of your releases I own probably aren’t considered A titles. A “B” title doesn’t mean B quality. One of the films you put in a box set coming up (that I assume you guys thought would sell better in a box) is in fact one of my all-time favorite films.

Looking forward to future announcements, A, B or C titles!

I tried to share a little bit of insider info about a deal that fell apart and it spawned dozens of misleading posts. What part of our current announcements tells you we've stopped releasing B titles? Many films that were originally released as B features are now considered to be classics and many big productions with big stars that were originally A titles, are now considered B releases that most could care less about.

Agreed, these are definitely great popcorn adventures and with Technicolor tailor made for Blu-ray. I highly recommend all of them with the one exception being THE WORLD IN HIS ARMS, which I just watched on the German Blu a couple of weeks ago. I found it a real misfire given Peck and Walsh and, quite frankly, an utter bore. But I’ve seen the rest and can unequivocally say they are all ripe for a vintage Saturday night at the movies good time.
